retired farmer , active painter and avid kayaker
Wonderful experience! Cute accommodations and beautiful property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Also, appreciated the snacks and loved the horses and kitties!
Lucy's farm was a wonderful experience. This was our family's first vacation and was perfect for relaxing far away from a city. Lucy provided juice, fruit, coffee, milk, and local know how. We felt welcomed as soon as we arrived and didn't want to leave. Don't let the entrance fool you, the apartment is quaint, comfortable, and clean. Beyond what you would expect. The property is beautiful and a cozy New England town is just a few miles down the road. We will certainly be returning as soon as our schedule permits. We highly recommend this place for peace and quiet that is second to none.
Everything was wonderful on Lucy's little island. She was a great host and the apartment was just perfect for what we needed for the week: private, quiet, starry, wonderful trails to hike, easy to access the rest of Maine without feeling like you're being run over by tourists. Loved it!
Lucy has a very warm and fun personality.
I enjoyed petting the horses and hiking on her land.
We hung out at the boathouse a bunch.
This place is a steal of a deal.
The host was extremely welcoming upon our arrival, showing us around and offering help or advice for things to see exploring her property as well as the beautiful mid-coast Maine area. The Island Farm is a very special piece of property and the apartment is as comfortable and welcoming as Lucy. It is spacious as well as cozy with a kitchen and nice eating table in front of a window with a view, good bathroom, nice sitting area and a cozy nook for the bed. Much of Lucy's artwork on the walls is a nice addition. The farm is a little off the beaten path of Maine tourists but with a short drive you can get to the shore line, the wonderful lighthouses, Monhegan Island, and the beautiful towns in the area such as Darmiscotta, Camden, Rockport, Boothbay and other special little towns out on the peninsulas. My husband and I enjoyed exploring the different areas, lobster on the wharf, fun stores and especially General Stores in the small towns off the beaten track, wonderful art galleries....there were more things to see and do than we had time for in our 3 nights we spent at Lucy's farm.
We could not have asked for a more peaceful, beautiful and comfortable escape from the City. The scenery is spectacular, with views of the river from the apartment (be sure to catch the morning fog over the water), and the sense that you really are worlds away from the hustle and bustle. Head down to the boathouse for some drinks at sunset. In the morning walk along the paths around the island to catch sights of deer, frogs, and other animals. You can also check out the railroad tracks nearby if you want to act out your own Walking Dead scenes!
The house is close to many of the towns in the Boothbay Harbor area. It was very clean and had a kitchen equipped with cooking supplies (pots, spatulas, etc..).
Lucy is a great host and helpful with any questions we had about the area - including restaurants and activities. Why stay anywhere else?! We can't wait to head back soon for another recharge!
We came up for two nights for the lobster festival in Rockland Maine and couldn't have asked for a better stay. The location was central to places, but was set back away so you felt like you were literally on your own island. The horses were beautiful, and the place impeccable. Lucy was a gracious host and went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. There is also a private place to swim and read. I couldn't have asked for a better place! Would definitely recommend!!!
The farm was wonderful - so peaceful and quiet. Lucy was a great host. She is a gracious, independent lady with a great sense of humor. We can't say enough about the boathouse, just me and Teddy, a few birds and a few fish jumping. Wow!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience on this island farm. The apartment was adorable, clean, light and airy with amazing art work on every wall. The island is enchanting. Our host Lucy could not have treated us nicer and given us better suggestions on everything. From the perfect place to kayak to what to do on a rainy morning to finding the best place in town to get food for a picnic. She is a gracious and thoughtful host- she even thought of us when there was a porcupine sighting! Such a peaceful and beautiful place.
Lucy's property is long on solitude and deep in beauty. If youre new the state of Maine or a longtime lover, Cunningham Island gives you that deep forest meets coast vibe that tends to heal the soul. She's close to civilization (25 min) too so you can have dinner out/shop if desired.
The apartment is rustic, cozy and clean. The double bed is extremely comfortable. We traveled with our ten month old daughter and found the digs to be crawling baby friendly.
Lucy is a gracious host. Friendly and informative.
All in all a gem! We left refreshed and feeling like we were at a family member's house.
Lucy was wonderful, we felt that we had known each other before and enjoyed each others company. She was a delight as a guest.
