Really cool people. When you want to know the original and true vibe of Maui and live the lifestyle, that's your place to go.
We met Aimee only once, but the other hosts JJ and Lulu (cute pig) were nice.
If you care about cleanliness (too) much, you should probably find another place.
We enjoyed it..
Staying at The Lahaina Bungalow for my Maui vacation was the best decision I have made in a long time. Not only was the room clean, air conditioned, and comfortable (it was), but Aimee and JJ are some of the kindest and most accommodating people I have ever met. Beyond the regular activity suggestions (which most hosts would give freely), Aimee and JJ took the time to hang out with my solo-traveling self and even took me to one of their favourite restaurants for my birthday. And, as another reviewer mentioned, JJ's sister is a great (and super chill) surf instructor. Highly recommended.
The location is also idyllic. A short walk from the beach and a short walk from Front Street in Lahaina, but nestled in a quiet neighbourhood. It was fun and easy to walk around and meet the neighbours and other locals.
The Lahaina Bungalow may not be for everyone, but if you are amenable to meeting interesting people from around the world (and around Maui) you will certainly enjoy yourself. After a week of staying here, I felt like I had started to run into the same people and even made some real friends.
My only regret is not staying for longer than a week!
Tha Lahaina Bungalow was a really nice place to stay. Just a couple of blocks away from the main street in Lahaina. And the hosts, Aimee and JJ were very nice and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.
Good location in Lahaina, short walk to beach, shops, restaurants and bus stop to get to other areas of the island [if you don't have a car]. Clean room and bathroom, everyone was really friendly and helpful, loved the pig!
Good location for a bit more than acceptable price.
The Lahaina Bungalow is a nice, familiar place to stay. The Kitchen and the Bath was not too clean, but the Room was great. We had a lot of fun with all the pets (dogs, cats, pig)
Aimee and JJ are tremendous hosts. The house is located in a chill neighborhood which was perfect for my short vacation because the town of Lahaina, the beach, and virtually everything is only blocks away. But the household is young and exciting. Not only I had a great time chatting with Aimee , JJ, and many other travelers around the globe, but also I received many pieces of great advice about what to do, where to eat, etc. My surfing lessons with JJ's sister, Tanya(who is absolutely a great surf instructor and a sweetheart) is the highlight of my vacation; I would recommend her to anyone, in the same way I would recommend this place to anyone from backpackers to honeymooners.
Very laid back atmosphere. A little too laid back for me. I would not stay here again. I am sure it will be great for some people.
Aimee and Mr. John James are great hosts. Lou Lou is the prize potbelly...yes pig. Ask about the herb garden, Aimee raided her garden to season the (Ahi) yellow fin tuna I had caught earlier that day, we seared it rare and wrapped it in plastic wrap and her special blend of fresh picked herbs. Delicious!
Aimee had double booked the room for us, but made it seamless for us to transition over to a different house at no additional cost. I commend Aimee for her commitment to find a place for us and offer a very pleasant stay. I'd book with Aimee again, as her place sits in the heart of Lahaina - Walking distance to bars, restaurants, shops and tours!
