We cannot say enough positive things about Can and our experience staying in the apartment listed! Upon arrival, Can had a staff member take our bags to the apartment while he provided us with tea and a map and outlined things to do and places to go in Istanbul, all of which was very much appreciated. We had numerous questions, given that our trip was somewhat last-minute and we did not do the proper amount of research regarding places to go and things to do in Istanbul, and he took a considerable amount of time to answer all questions posed and offer insight. He even provided us with a gift of an evil-eye keychain, which I will treasure always. Upon arriving to the apartment, he had left a few treats and a large bottle of water in the refrigerator for us. On one occasion, when we were asking how to get to the Spice Market, he took the time to drive us there personally. He also provided us with two umbrellas one day when it was raining, as we had forgotten to pack ours. Whenever we had a question, we were encouraged to go next door during business hours and/or call him, which we took advantage of a few times. All this was certainly going "above and beyond" and very helpful! Can and his staff made us feel welcomed and viewed as valued guests. In addition, because our plane left very early in the morning, he arranged a taxi for us and even had his staff member Ahmed show up (at 3 o'clock in the morning no less!) to make sure that we got off without any problems. Ahmed even carried our bags to the taxi and loaded them for us. The apartment was charming, and even had two bathrooms, which I did not remember from the listing, but was a great surprise. The bathroom downstairs even had a heated floor, which was nice. The apartment was in a good location and relatively close to the area in which we wanted to spend the most time. The only thing I would caution others about is the hill surrounding the apartment, so if you have difficulty navigating stairs or hills, this may prove to be a bit of a challenge. We are middle-age (approaching elderly) however, and we did not have any problems whatsoever. In all, I would HIGHLY recommend staying in one of Can's listings. Both he and his apartment were charming.
Can's place is well located if you want to experience modern Istanbul. It is in a quiet neighborhood and yet, close enough to the bustling Istiklal street area (around 10 mins walk).
The photography theme adds to the charm of his place. What you see in pictures is exactly what you'll find: a clean, functional and cozy home.
The snacks and tea given by Can were a delightful treat, especially after coming from an early morning flight. Can also provided a transit card which was very useful for exploring the city. He was always available for any questions we had.
There was just a minor problem with the laundry machine and shower drain, but Can promptly attended to the issues.
Overall, we enjoyed staying at Can's place and felt at home and very welcome.
We spent six nights at Can's apartment and had a very pleasant stay. The apartment is the perfect size for a couple and has a very interesting and unusual design, with a sleeping loft above the kitchen. It is comfortably furnished and, while not luxurious, has everything a traveller needs. The washing machine worked perfectly and the shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water. The location is excellent - just a few minutes from Istiklal Caddesi and the interesting Beyoglu neighborhoods with many interesting shops, markets, bars and restaurants. It is also only a short walk to the Sishane Metro station, for easy connections to the Ataturk airport and all of Istanbul, and close to the Kasimpasa ferry stop, for the ferry that goes to Eminonu, Uskudar or up the Golden Horn. Best of all, Can is a great host and wants to help his guests have an enjoyable stay. He gives very useful information on the neighborhood and on Istanbul generally, and also provides an Istanbulkart, which is a great help in getting around on the Metro system. We really enjoyed our time in Istanbul, in large part thanks to Can and his wonderful apartment, and we will definitely stay there again when we return.
Be ready, there will be a lot of "super" definitions. Dzhan's apartments are super, very adequatly represented by the pictures on the website. Everything's new and tidy. Plus lots of cute old things on shelves that help you feel a bit "historical". Apartment is nicely located, everything's in a walking distance: sightseeings, nightlife, food, stores - for everyone's taste. The district is the best in Instanbul to live as a tourist, we believe - a nice combination of local authenticity and touristic comfort. Special thanks to the super-host, Dzhan, who picked us up with his own car when we called him being lost trying to find the location for the first time (no surprise for those who've been to this city). After a couple of phonecalls he realised we are hopeless and rescued us no matter how late it was. We had his detailed map how to get there but it did not help us :) Dzhan's file with instructions had GPS coordinates - we should have used them (or a taxi) now I realize. After fetching us Dzhan invited us to his office nearby, supplied with all sorts of city maps, a souvenir, Istanbul transport card, informed about the main attractions, invited for a coffee next day. What else to ask for! Everything was super, will definitely come again! Thank you, Dzhan ("Can" in Turkish :))
It was very easy to find Can because his office is right next to the apartment so during the day if you need you will find him there.
He was very nice welcoming us with a glass of turkish tea and giving us some tips. It was very useful to receive the bus/metro card which you van easily recharge and use for every public transportation.
The apartment is really nice, an old typical wooden house renovated, spacious and comfortable. It located perfectly, in a little street with no noise at all, but walking distance from bars, restaurants and lot's of life. Way better than staying in the turistic area where all the monuments and attractions are, you can cross the bridge and go there visiting during the day easily, but all the life is closer to can's place.
I would definitely come back in this apartment in case of going back to Istanbul.
We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay in Istanbul than Can's place. He personally said this was his favorite apartment, and it was easy to see why: It's a beautiful space (the photos barely do it justice) in great condition, with all the amenities you could ask for, perfectly located near some of the city's most exciting areas, and Can went above and beyond to make our stay great. He helped us with many tips, gave us a public transport card to use, left little breakfast treats in the fridge and was always available to us. Highly recommended!
Can was a great host. Loved the stay. The room was beautiful and warm perfect for the weather. Ahmed was of great help he assisted us with things we wanted for a four day stay.
It was a pleasant stay at Can's apartment.
Mr.Can is an excellent host, upon arrival gave map and hints regarding Istanbul and local places to try. The staff is highly accommodative and always ready to help. The location is really great, close to Istiklal Street and on the same time it's located in a quiet place. The apartment itself very cozy and you feel like at home. Thank you.
This place is a real gem!! Even better looking than in the pictures, warm cozy and so pleasant! The location is spot on perfect and the house was so clean when we arrived. Can is a great host, he left us yummy treats in the fridge upon our arrival and was very helpful with everything we needed. This was my third time in Istanbul, and if i ever go back for more i am staying there!!
I was very happy to welcome Can and his family in Rome.
We met them at the apartment on time and had a very good communication through email and sms during their stay.
I hope to see them again, maybe in Istanbul, why not? :)
To all those who are planning a trip to Istanbul and are currently looking at the plentiful accommodation options, allow me to assert with confidence that your search is over. I arrived in Istanbul in mid 2010 with no knowledge of Turksih, no contacts, and no idea where I was going to live. After countless viewings of shady apartments with shady landlords, fate brought me to Can and his brother, Cem. I lived at Galatapera #3 for a year and it was easily one of the best years of my young life. Can, his brother, and everyone at the Dolunay office showered me with hospitality and genuine kindness that I will never forget. Since then, I have stayed at many Airbnb residencies around the world and while they have all been nice, none have lived up to the impossibly high standard set by Can. I'm sure that your stay will be everything you hope for and then some. Bon voyage and enjoy everything this unforgettable city has to offer!
Can, maşallah ve seni çok özledim!
