Hi everybody. I really loved my third journey to Istanbul. And of cause it is due to Can's apartment. It is nice and cosy flat with everything you need. And it antique wall with ottoman's dinnerware is beatyful. It is situated near the Galata tower, not far from metro station. Can really helpful and friendly host.
So if you want to have a plesant journey I suggest to rent Can's apartment, i think you like it.
We spend a whole week at the apartment Galatapera#1 and enjoyed it very much. It is perfectly located, just a few minutes food walk away from the main shopping street and Taksim Square. A lot of restaurants nearby, good excess via public transport to all main tourist sights. The apartment itself is really charming, with its brickstone walls and the bed next to the balcony. The host, Can, is also nice an caring. We can highly recommend this place!
This was a perfect place in a perfect location: quite surroundings, but close to metro, tunnel, istiklal. Flat is spacious and has everything you need for big family: 2 bedrooms, living room with coaches, TV, washing mashine and full cooking set. It is just renovated and all things are new.
Can is very nice and speaks good english. Thanks, Can, our stay was a pleasure.
We had 6 great days in Istanbul at Can's place. Can is a wonderful host, always helpful and friendly. You can ask him anything you need! Great location - near Istiklal street, Galata tower, metro station (Sishane), but far from noisy roads. It was a bit noisy in the appartment, because of neighbours, cars and children playing football under our window:) But it's okay: Istanbul isn't a quietest city:) There's anything you need in the appt: microwave, fridge, stove, hairdryer, cezve, a small grocery store near (to buy genuine turkish coffee), besides there's lots of cool stuff like Zinger sewing machine or antik kettles, and a big big sofa to relax after long walks. No problems with wi-fi. Strongly recommended.
Location. Nice quiet neighbourhood.
Apartment is compact and well kept.
Can is nice host .very informative and cooperative.
He gave us the travel tram card which was very thoughtful of him. And a very practical help too.
Flat is at a 5 to 7 min uphill walk from istikal street.
negative - steep slope can be a big deterrent for senior citizens.
The apartment was great, spacious, clean, a wonderful home in Istanbul. The neighborhood was fabulous and easy to get anywhere I wanted to go. Can was a very generous host. We had a little complication with our trip he took it all in stride and helped us out immensely. I'm so grateful to him and thrilled I picked this rental. Nothing but positive feelings here.
We had a perfect stay at Galatapera #2 and Can was a perfect host. The place is cosy, comfortable, clean and ideally situated close to the transport, restaurants and shops of Beyoglu but in a quiet residential area. Full mark for both the apartment and the host.
The place was great! Well-connected by public transit, very close to great food & shopping on Istiklal, convenient to groceries. The host had water & snacks in the fridge, which was much appreciated after a day of traveling. He also gave us a nice map of the area, helped us arrange a taxi for our super early flight at Ataturk, & was generally very welcoming.
The apartment itself was cozy, clean, & had a nice kitchen stocked with all the necessities. The only downside is that the walls are thin; we could hear the upstairs neighbors talking, eating, etc. It never really bothered us, but light sleepers might want to bring earplugs.
This 200 year old efficiency apartment is just as beautiful as the photos show. Additionally it is an absolutely perfect location (near the Pera Palace Hotel.) Istanbul is like San Francisco in its hilliness, so you must be prepared for a climb, but I'm 60 and had no trouble at all.
Can (pronounced as "John") Is very welcoming and attentive IF he is aware of any issues.
The bed is very comfortable and the kitchen is equipped with basics (pots, steam iron, french press, electric kettle, cooking utensils, etc.) It was very clean and easy to keep it so. The bathroom is extremely small but clean and functional. There was no microwave as described and the internet is unsatisfactory - weak signal and intermittant & frequent loss of connection. It worked well enough, though for us to send daily photos to (website hidden) and to check our e-mail. We couldn't get the TV to work (I was curious about Turkish TV) but it wasn't a problem for us as we didn't come to watch television. The heat was a problem. Can showed us how to ignite it and we were able to start it each evening for the first three days. On the 4th evening, though, nothing we did could get it to start. Despite sending several e-mails, it took two days for Can to respond (he said he had not received our message.) He came to show us again and he, himself, had difficulty so it seems the unit is defective.
The neighbors upstairs, although not his tenants, are a problem for him. They have a child who is up until very late (midnight!) and who runs around and cries all evening. I have earplugs so that didn't bother me so much but my companion was not pleased.
These neighbors also have a plumbing problem that directly affects the apartment. There was a leak of (clean) water coming from our ceiling for several days. We put the kitchen wastebasket on a towel and placed it underneath. When we left, Can was making arrangements to have it repaired in cooperation with the upstairs landlord.
Despite these difficulties, I would recommend this host. There is nothing available so reasonably priced in such a good location as this and the other apartments nearby that Can rents out. In fact, he offered to move us to one right nearby and showed them to us; they are quite nice in a completely renovated building. He also offered to extend our stay for free, but we had other plans.
If Can can work out the problem with the heat, internet and upstairs neighbors, he will have to raise his price for the stay. Honestly, if I were coming back to Istanbul, I would absolutely stay here again. When I travel, I'm prepared to make compromises. As long as I'm clean, have my morning coffee, a good bed and the room is pleasant, I am content.
In retrospect, I have no regrets about choosing Galatapera #3.
We had a great stay in Can's apartment! He was a perfect host, welcomed us past midnight because our flight was so late and really made us feel at home! Thank you Can!!!
To all those who are planning a trip to Istanbul and are currently looking at the plentiful accommodation options, allow me to assert with confidence that your search is over. I arrived in Istanbul in mid 2010 with no knowledge of Turksih, no contacts, and no idea where I was going to live. After countless viewings of shady apartments with shady landlords, fate brought me to Can and his brother, Cem. I lived at Galatapera #3 for a year and it was easily one of the best years of my young life. Can, his brother, and everyone at the Dolunay office showered me with hospitality and genuine kindness that I will never forget. Since then, I have stayed at many Airbnb residencies around the world and while they have all been nice, none have lived up to the impossibly high standard set by Can. I'm sure that your stay will be everything you hope for and then some. Bon voyage and enjoy everything this unforgettable city has to offer!
Can, maşallah ve seni çok özledim!
