We had a wonderful ten days in Melbourne, and it was thanks in large part to Steve's gorgeous loft apartment.
We've been using Airbnb for over a year as hosts, and this was our first time to use it as guests, but it proved to be just as fabulous an experience.
It was Steve's first go at renting out his place, so there were some very minor hiccups in the beginning, but once those were all sorted, communication was incredible easy and frequent. He was away the entire time we were in Melbourne, but because of the emails, it felt like he's someone we've known for a long time, or that at least he was there in person to help us out.
We had some simple questions about certain things in the apartment, e.g. WifI, dryer, etc... and he was incredibly quick in getting back to us with answers, despite being in a timezone a good 10-11 hours away!
He was very organized and left us detailed instructions on many things in the apartment, so by the time we arrived we already had a good idea of how everything ran. He even took a photo of all his keys and labelled them to help us identify which key was for what purpose.
It's clear he's a very thoughtful and considerate host.
Now about the apartment itself. Location is superb, being literally a stone's throw from Federation Square and Flinders Street station. We could walk to most places within the city itself, and there were plenty of tram options for us to get around with. The FREE city circle tram stops right outside, so that's a big plus. There's also a FREE city shuttle bus that is less than a block away.
We had everything we needed to cook, wash our clothes, etc with. WiFi was consistent and fast. Our parents slept in the bedroom with the real bed, while we were in the living room with an inflatable mattress that definitely gave us a good nights' rest. There was a fan in case it got too hot, but we almost never used it. Even though there weren't any curtains in the living room, it was dark enough to where we were able to sleep easily.
One of the highlights of the apartment would have to be the SHOWER. Boy was it strong and hot! Everyone of us looked forward to that moment of the day! Ha.
We could go on and on, but we'll leave on this note in case we set the expectations too high for future guests. If we ever visit Melbourne again, Steve's apartment would definitely be our first choice.
