The reservation was canceled 12 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Host was very nice and the house and room was comfortable and clean. I did have to switch property locations unexpectedly and they were very far apart from each other, which was inconvenient. Drumcondra property was about 40 min from city center.
Really great value room in for a stay in Dublin, quite a walk in to the city but there are regular buses that go from just round the corner straight into the centre. The room was big and comfortable, the rest of the house was well equipped. More like a hostel than a place to sit and chat with the owner but this suited us fine :)
The room was changed a couple of days before my arrival due to unforeseen circumstances, but was not a big deal. I did not meet Elitsa in person, but she provided detailed instruction as to how to check in and all the essentials were provided when I checked into the studio. Location was good, and the place was clean and more than sufficient. Studio was big enough to fit two people.
I should have known this was going to be a bad experience from the start. I attempted to email and contact Elitsa multiple times prior to our trip as we were traveling from the U.S. and were not going to have cell phone or internet access once we left (aside from the hopeful wifi available). We didn't hear back from her until we contacted AirBNB and then she responded to us.
When we arrived after a 9 hour flight and an unexpected 7 hour layover in London, we were so excited to get to our room to a warm bed. However we were disappointed over and over again.
As our cab driver was taking us to the apartment he told us to "not go down that road after dark" (Use North Strand, not the other road which was littered with trash), which did not give me a good feeling.
We were in studio 2, which is not the room pictured when we booked the room. It was so tiny I could touch the bathroom door and the kitchen counter from the bed.
I contacted Elitsa a couple times during our stay to ask questions about how to work the washer/dryer and about being in the wrong room, but I did not hear back from her until the morning we left Dublin. She said the rooms 1, 2, and 5 are the same size but room 1 is the one that is pictured. It has a better layout and appears roomier. We got a peak in while the cleaning lady was there.
The bathroom is so small you cannot open the shower door to get in and out, you have to squeeze, and the water is temperamental. One minute it's scorching hot, the next freezing cold. And since the room is so tiny, and there is a table in the room too, it's nearly impossible to use the stove. The walls are thin, we were woken up nightly around 2-3am by neighbors.
We never did hear back from Elitsa as to how to use the dryer portion so we had to find a place to dry our clothes the morning we left (which cost us 6 euro).
The wifi worked well.
A word to the next people who are brave enough to stay here- don't stay for very long, 2 nights and we were frustrated with it being so cramped. Make sure all the switches are on when you want to use them (mostly the fridge which we didn't know would not be turned on so our food went bad).
Beautiful area. The other people also staying there were fantastic, and it was a great opportunity to get to know some other international travelers. Place was extremely clean. My only complaint was that there a lot of people using the bathroom and that the shower did not work so well, but I would definitely stay there again.
A few days before arrival, Elitsa told us that the apartment we booked would not be available and suggested an alternative studio that was some 30 minutes away from the room we booked. As she was advertising 2 further studios in the area we intended to stay in, we tried to contact and ask her whether we could book one of these instead of the alternative that was so far away. Unfortunately, we didn't hear from her for 2 days and she only replied when we were on our way to Dublin already. Upon arrival we met with her friend Seamus (she had given us his number beforehand) who told us that the 2 apartments that we were interested in, were not available anymore (despite being advertised on airbnb). He then drove us to another apartment, that wasn't even the alternative that Elitsa had suggested. The one we got after all, was 50 minutes (by bus) away from city centre. There was also no wifi, despite us booking just that. Elitsa, Seamus and us therefore agreed to stay for just one night (we had booked 3 nights initially) and find something else for the remaining 2 nights. A refund for these two nights was also agreed, for which I am still waiting, unfortunately.
All in all a rather disappointing experience.
In general experience was positive. The place is clean and room was it is described - small and simple, suitable for you if you just need place to sleep. It is located in 30 mins walk from the centre, but really easy reachable from the airport. We never met Elitsa, but reached her via phone with second try when she explained how to get into the house.
However, what is not described is that it is not just a room in the house with hosts. The whole house is rented to other guests, and in general at once it can have at least 10 people and there is only one bathroom, which makes things complicated. The same goes for the kitchen. As it is old building, it is easy to hear guests in the other rooms, so there is a bit lack of privacy. Anyway, at the same time it gives you hostel atmosphere where you can meet people, travellers as you are and it is quite cheap option for other offers in the city.
Great Location and Nice Environment.
Although i did not meet Elitsa, but her service is very nice.
My flight is delayed and reached there in middle of night,
but Elitsa still able to check us in.
Elista booked a room for her friends, but they didn't end up staying with us. Still, she honored the commitment and cancellation policy.
Elitsa's friends were wonderful guests! They were very clean and tidy and it was my pleasure to chat with them. Also, they were flexible and easy to communicate with. Recommended!
