I'll get to this soon!
Bottom line, this place is not worth the hassle. While gorgeous and uniquely designed the lofts just have too many drawbacks that I am surprised were not mentioned in any of the other reviews. We stayed in the upper loft in Sept 2013 for 3 nights. We were miserable. The mosquitos were horrible even when we used the mosquito net, citronella candles, and plenty of bug spray. I woke up one morning with 37 mosquito bites on ONE arm. The loft is equipped with an overhead fan and the windows let in a nice breeze but unfortunately while you are laying in bed the concrete headboard prevents any of the breeze from cooling you plus the fan is not strong enough to reach the bed area. As a result we were miserably hot until 1am each night and unable to sleep. At 6:30am each morning we were woken by the sun which resulted in very little sleep each night. In addition, the jungle that surrounds the loft is quite loud at night with a menagerie of frogs, chickens, cows, goats, and insects. This is cool but takes several nights to get used to. Several times we thought about leaving and checking into a hotel just so we could escape the mosquitos and sleep! The pool is nice but not the cleanest. There was a hazy fog in the water that was unsettling. The worst of all is that there were cockroaches everywhere. While we were in the Vieques airport waiting to return to San Juan, one of the cockroaches ran out of my Husband's backpack which had been stored in the loft's closet. We have since returned home to California and have found additional cockroaches in our luggage which means that we will need to have our condo sprayed and remain hopeful that for the next 90 days the cockroaches did not lay eggs in any of our belongings. This place was overall a huge hassle and not worth our money for the view which was one of the few positives of the experience.
Staying in Vieques at Glen & Alex's was the best decision we made for our trip! The pictures on here certainly do not do their lodging justice. The views were stunning and waking up everyday to the sun and ocean in an open air apartment was spectacular. Glen was so helpful and gave us great recommendations. I will recommend this place to everyone and anyone who wants to visit Vieques. I wouldn't even bother with San Juan, just go straight here. Thanks for making our trip so memorable!!!
Vieques is spectacular. Glen and Alex's inside information about the island and the people made our trip more meaningful. From restaurant recommendations, to off the beaten path local adventures, I left feeling like a local. As for the loft: spectacular. Falling asleep and waking up to open ocean breezes and the natural sounds of Vieques made me not want to leave. Hopefully, I will return to the island, and to stay at this architecturally amazing villa.
a transcendent experience! beautiful space and hosts are amazing and accommodating. glen picked us up at the ferry and helped us get oriented on the island. we didn't want to leave!
Glen and his partner Alex have a really unique place for your Vieques trip. Both of the guest apartments we stayed in during our long trip were clean and comfortable, with incredible views of the jungle and ocean. We loved watching sunrise and sunset from bed, playing with the three sweet dogs, meeting other travelers at their delicious catered dinner, rinsing off from the beach in the outdoor shower, and all the little touches like fresh coffee and beach towels. They left us alone as much as we wanted, but were eager to help if we needed anything. Glen not only met us at the airport to drive us to the apartment, he waited for over an hour when our flight was delayed and we couldn't get cell service to get in touch with them -- definitely above and beyond. If you're looking for a cool, quiet getaway, this is the place for you.
The property is truly one of a kind - I can't remember the last time I stayed indoors and felt so connected to nature. Also, Glen was a fantastic host; he's appreciative of those who come to experience the island and full of advice and knowledge about Vieques.
