Staying with Manda at her charming heritage house was a highlight of our visit to Portland. The atmosphere of the house was warm and welcoming. Our room was clean, simple, and very comfortable, and the bathroom was immaculate. What a delight it was to stay here. The house is a veritable feast of paintings, and delicious food. The location was excellent - we parked at Lloyd Centre and took the train, free-of-charge into downtown the two days we were there.
Very nice stay. The house was comfortable, Manda was very pleasant and accommodating, and the breakfast was delicious. The house was within walking distance to the free train downtown. The hot tub was hot and bubbly. WeI highly recommend this place.
I thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Manda is a warm and gracious host. Her well appointed home has a soothing elegant ambiance. It would be hard to match this deal which also includes the finest breakfast ! The bathroom has a spacious shower with great water pressure. This is where I will stay in Portland on future trips.
The hosts were very friendly, including the somewhat reclusive cat who met us at the door. Although I am usually mildly allergic to cats, I had no reaction at all. The cat is kept strictly out the bedroom.
The breakfasts were delicious, and certainly set Ursa Major apart from other Airbnbs. Manda was very flexible with timing -- just be sure to let her know your schedule in advance.
The bed and bedroom were as expected. The house is "vintage", but the auxiliary heater made the bedroom quite comfortable. The bathroom was nicely decorated, though some people might prefer to have a private bathroom instead.
Overall, we had a lovely visit.
A beautiful home in a nice section of Portland, with many excellent restaurants and other entertainment nearby. It's a short "hop, skip, and a jump" to downtown. We had a fine room with a comfortable bed, also furnished with a dresser and table (nice touches). It was quiet (yes!) and the hot tub was a luxurious 104 degrees (that's Fahrenheit to those of you in more "cultured" parts of the world). Breakfast was delicious and wonderfully flavored with herbs and spices. We particularly liked the "Middle Eastern" breakfast appetizer -- feta, a variety of olives, and yummy bread. Then came the "real" breakfast, which was far better than anything we could have gotten elsewhere. We each even got different courses as I'm allergic to eggs (darn, darn, darn). I'm sure we'll be back.
If I live in Portland, I would make sure to live close to Manda so that I can visit her everyday :) It was awesome to be her guest! I wish I could stay longer!
Our stay was very pleasant. The hot tub was a very special treat and we enjoyed several good soakings in it.
Manda is a wonderful cook and the breakfasts she provided were the proof. We enjoyed our stay and will again on our return trips.
I recommend this place.
Manda and her roommate Scotty were wonderful hosts! The house was spotless, the room was big and bright, the food was fantastic, and most of all, Manda and Scotty were generous and spirited hosts. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
Wow! Ursa Major B and B exceeded my expectations. The house is gorgeous and kept very clean. It is located very close to public transportation options that will take you anywhere you want to go in Portland. Manda and her roomate are fabulous people and very welcoming. The food was amazing, and they were great about providing gluten-free options. The hot tub on the back porch is a really great perk. Overall, unexpectedly great value for the price. I couldn't imagine a better place to stay when visiting Portland. I'll be back!
What a great place to call "home" for a few days! The location was perfect for me as I had classes at the Oregon Convention Center. The bus stop is 3 blocks away and Lloyd Center and the MAX are about a 15 minute walk. The host is very welcoming, went out of her way to assist me and for that I am very grateful. The room itself is quiet and the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is clean and well equipped with towels, hair dryer and shampoo. Having breakfast there was a nice touch and her cat is really sweet! I would recommend anyone traveling to Portland to stay @ Ursa Major B&B!
I've known Manda for many years, and although hostess and chef have not been her professional titles, they are the roles she brings the most love and passion to. Her cooking is delicious, with well-balanced, carefully chosen courses and exciting flavors. I've been a guest at her table for a long time, and still she surprises me with new culinary experiences.
Her house is a beautifully kept up Dutch Colonial in the heart of Portland's lush Irvington neighborhood. It's close to Lloyd Center and downtown, but in a quiet, residential location. The gardens and landscaping around the house are superb, creating a feeling of natural bounty and relaxation. The interior of the house is well decorated with an eye for simple pleasures with beautiful, original artwork on almost every wall. Manda is part of Portland's artistic heritage, and displays her own work, as well as work from other accomplished artists.
Manda and the Ursa Major B&B represent a beautiful window into the heart of Portland; Charming hospitality, well-made food, beautiful architecture, visual arts, thoughtful gardens, and walkable neighborhoods. I plan on returning here as a friend and as a guest for many years to come.
