Hello! My name is Heidi...nice to meet you!
I grew up in Minneapolis, MN and currently live in Hønefoss, Norway after marrying the man of my dreams this past July. I will, however be returning to Williamsburg, VA for the next three semesters. I am attending The College of William and Mary there and pursuing a major in Process Management Consulting at the Mason School of Business and a minor in German. I am well-traveled and have just returned from a wonderful year in Bamberg, Germany that was organized through William & Mary's study abroad program. I am fluent in German and have dual-citizenship with the US and Germany.
Some of my favorite outdoor activities include running, playing tennis, swimming, biking, and just relaxing in an over-sized hammock on a beautiful summer evening. I also love to read a good mystery or legal novel, write poetry or other forms of prose, and listen to jazz, Christian, or classical music. Spending time with my friends is also at the top of my list, and a typical evening for us would involve, first, going grocery shopping together, then, cooking up something amazing and enjoying our creation with a new wine (We love to experiment...but we are in no way experts!). I would say that sushi is definitely my favorite food, followed by seafood. One of my specialties, however, is baking, and I LOVE making cheesecakes. I like to be adventurous, so I don't use a recipe. Instead, I like to ask someone what their favorite tastes are and come up with a special creation, just for them! For example..White Chocolate Sweet Potato with Roasted Marshmallows! ;)
As far as my style goes, I am very laid back and easy to get along with. I enjoy conversation, but I don't have a quota of the number of words I must meet on a daily basis, so the superficial banter is something I don't have much interest in. I am clean and neat, but not an extremist about it. I believe that keeping my word is ultimately important, and therefore you will find that I am dependable and responsible. Respecting property and the principle of leaving something in better condition than as you found it is something I was taught as a child and carry out in my life today.
I am glad I have been able to share a bit about myself with you. To close, one of my favorite quotations that seems to capture my values and the way I live is:
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan- like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion.”
