I am a writer and artist and love to travel and meet new people! An army brat, I was born in Germany and have lived all over the world. My upbringing instilled in me an insatiable drive to explore new cultures and meet people with differing perspectives. In addition to travel, I love writing, photography, making art, thrift shopping, jogging on Delaware beaches and hiking in the mountains of Scotland and Norway.

I trained as a journalist, beginning my career as a general assignment reporter at Sun City Center, a retirement community near Tampa, Fla. My articles led to development of a local Alzheimer's disease support group and to closure of an illegal feedlot operation that had caused citizens to suffer respiratory problems. Later, in Columbia, S.C., I infiltrated a Ku Klux Klan rally on freelance assignment for the Black News. Following publication of my article and photos, I was hired as the news group's managing editor. I also worked as a professional lady wrestler for a short period as part of a journalism experiment ((website hidden)_Maxine).

Today, I'm Acting Chief of Communications of the National Human Genome Research Institute at the National Institutes of Health. From writing and editing news releases and website features, to shooting video and implementing social media outreach, I hunt for opportunities to highlight NHGRI's cutting edge science and scientists.
