Another month in NYC, another awesome month @ Caroline's.. it seems to be rainy season and being a few steps away from the subway means confidence to go explore NYC without an umbrella and not having to worry about 10 mins walking in the rain without warning.
I Started to explore the the city quite a lot on feet and there are a lot of places I wouldn't feel exactly comfortable walking at night by myself, but this location is right by a busy street and I feel safe coming home late.
This is my first time using airbnb but i'm already in love with it. Caroline is a great host, she offered tips on the groceries, laundry and great restaurants around the neighborhood(quite a lot of high yelp rating restaurant around), the place is very tastefully designed if you like retro furnitures. part of the deal was to take care of the house cat when she was away, who's name is Mr. Coco. a really sweet cat with great temperament. But i'm guessing this is a unique arrangement as they love their cat too much to let just anyone take care of him. I was lucky to have a quite and fluffy roommate that kept me company visiting Ny for the first time.
The room was just as seen in the photos. It is hard to find a place that has 1 bedroom and a livingroom w/ kitchen area all to yourself in manhattan, took me a week to find this place. It is a bit dark in the living-room, though i'd say it's more romantic that way, and you can choose to turn on all the lights if you want. the neighborhood is quite safe, though i was shocked of the neighboring area bordering china town when I first arrived but I guess that's just NY you can't get the best of everything (unless you are made of money and can afford a rent of 4-5k a month.) for me this is the perfect balance between relatively quite interior, big interior space, tastefully curated furnitures(Caroline is an art director for Pete's sake it has to be good), nice green park outside and the place all to myself. And I guess being near china town does have it's perks of a whole bunch of top rated ethnic food; the dumpling and the Pho is just amazing even for an asian who's just had about all the asians food in the world.
lastly and yet the best part is it's super close to the metro/subway station, i could literally close my eyes and walk there without any problem, having a metro station near for first time NY visitors is just heavenly.
sure you can live off the island, in areas surrounding, but why come to NY if you can't live on manhattan?
if you are still hesitating, don't ! NY apartment goes quickly. (in fact I just requested to stay for a 2nd month because i can't yet find a place that I like else where on the island within my budget, i could choose to room with 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 guys/girls but who knows what kind of psychopath are out there.)
Caroline and her guest were outstanding. Friendly courteous and respectful and very clean. I would definitely welcome her and her guest back anytime they want. Great experience.
Caroline was a wonderful guest and we would be honored to have her again!
great guest !
Caroline was very communicative and easy-going and left the house in perfect order. She was also agreeable to an early check-out which allowed for other guests to arrive later in the day- she did not have to do this but did so out of kindness and it was very much appreciated. She is welcome back anytime!
I've had the pleasure to accompany Caroline on a few spontaneous adventures and all I can say is she is the ideal travel companion- and an exemplary guest.
I also hosted her at my apartment while I was living in Paris and she left the apartment in better condition than when she had arrived.
I couldn't imagine a more respectful and appreciative patron and voyager.
