We had a fabulous time in this quaint apartment/house. The property is exactly as depicted in the pictures, with many curiosities spread throughout the house. It was spacious and had a superb balcony. Its location is also ideal for those wanting to be amongst atmospheric buildings and within easy reach of services and lovely cafes. It appeared that we were amongst the first to visit the apartment this year and it needed a little bit of airing to start with. The downstairs bedrooms also needed to be warmed by the electric radiators 30 minutes before using them but our kids soon snuggled down and slept well. I would further recommend Sao Joao de Pesqueira as an ideal base from which to explore the rest of the Duoro region as well as being a very pleasant place to wander round in its own right. Clara was attentive and helpful by text; we were let in by a house-keeper who showed us around and lit the gas-boiler. Our abiding memory will be of the house-martins frequenting their nests virtually at eye-level as we sunned ourselves on the balcony, watching the villagers going about their daily business.
Hi Geraint, Thank you for your lovely review! You were indeed our first Guests this year.
We had a nice stay in this beautiful old house. Very quiet and peaceful place. There was everything we needed for our stay.
Clara is friendly and helpful. We highly recoment this house to everyone.
We stayed a couple of nights at Clara's and really enjoyed the experience! She has a beautiful, oddly shaped and seemingly full of stories family house where we had a wonderful time. It is located in a small and welcoming village in the Douro subregion, where one of the main economic activities is the production of wine (particularly Port). The steep valleys and the grape vine terraces make for a beatiful scenery. The house is huge: we really enjoyed the big old-style kitchen, and the balcony was a fantastic place to watch the day fade away (and the Douroan swallows go crazy!). Clara was not in Sao Joao during our stay, but somebody else gave us the keys and a tour to the property, and she was anyway available over the phone at all times and really helpful with everything. We're very happy we decided to stay at hers!
We had a lovely time in this part of the country, in a beautiful, old fashioned and well preserved house. The region is stunning and locals are extremely friendly. Clara was always available over the phone and helpful with anything we needed. Highly recommended!
The place is by far our favorite accomodation during our trip. It looks better than on the pics ! It is very cosy and in the old part of the town. Clara is very nice and available for any questions. I highly recommand this lovely house if you plan to come in the douro area!
Thank you so much for your comment Christelle! We'd be happy to welcome you back anytime! =)
It was a great opportunity to stay in this beautifully old house in the center of the small village of Soa Joao which is still full with old stuff. It makes you really feel at home.
Our favourite was the terrace of the house where we spent quiet some of our time.
We would recommend this house if you are a small group of people. The sleeping rooms on the groundfloor just aren't that cosy. But the master bedroom is great !!
We didn't meet Clara but the communication went perfect !
The region is interesting, the village adorable (there is an outdoor swimmingpool) and you can go for a dive in the river (half hour by car) which is just great.
Hey Katie! Thank you for your review, we appreciate all feedback =)
Sao Joao de Pesqueira is a large village in deepest rural, port wine Portugal, hovering above the Douro. Spectacular views, local port from local producers at less than 10 euros a bottle, walking opportunities and places that time forgot. The house of Clara's is a beautiful old town house in tiny pedestrianised streets. Finely and exquisitively furnished with all you could want from a real house. Comfortable sofas, beds and a quirkiness that makes the place a delight. We were blessed with sun and the balcony is ideally positioned to capture the best of it from my morning tea till the late sunset wine. A great experience of proper Portugal.
La casa es muy bonita y estaba super limpia!!!. La recomiendo por la cercania que tiene para llegar a los viñedos y bodegas de oporto.
This is the most interesting house I've ever stayed in! It is really beautiful and funky and truly feels like an old family home. It was very cold while we were there but they gave us space heaters that kept our bedroom warm and there were lots and lots of wool blankets. There was also plenty of warm water. The location and the area were just great. I would LOVE to come back in the summer time!
Thank you so much for your review Camille =) Glad you had good time !
