We had a wonderful time in Barcelona. Gioia organised for someone to meet us at the apartment, he was very friendly and showed us how to use the locks, keys etc. The apartment was perfect for our short stay with everything we needed closeby. The streets surrounding the apartment were awesome for food, drinks and shopping. Takes a little while to get used to the bed being so close to the ceiling but adds to the quaintnees of the apartment. A great use of a small space in the heart of a great area of Barcelona, thanks Gioia.
Idéal pour un couple. Parfaitement bien placé, dans une petite rue piétonne en plein centre de Barcelone. L'aménagement de l'appartement reste sommaire mais suffisant pour pouvoir passer quelques jours agréable à Barcelone.
Great, Clean and beautifull place !!!
The flat was easy to find, a single side street to the Rambla, very well connected. You're right in the city center, and Barcelonetta beach is only a 20 minute walk away.
The flat itself was neat and clean and the bed slept well. It can be a bit dark inside with the lights turned off, but then again why are you not outside in the day.
While the advert already mentions there not being a Wifi connection, we missed it, so just to re-iterate: There is no wifi!
You can get it most anywhere in the city, or get a spanish sim card for a tenner, but there's something about connecting with the home front from the comfort of your bed.
Location great. Quietness at night also great.
But it took us a long time before we could get in the appartment. Goia did not answer the phone. There are at least 12 or 15 appartments on number 8 and Goia's name is nowhere on the postboxes. Thanks to a friendly neighbour we finally found out which appartment it was and Gaby let us in. She was surprised that we didn't have her phone-number, but how could we?
But after that we had a great time here
Our hostess Gioia was responsive by email, her directions to the apartment were perfect and a person was waiting for us on time with the keys and to show us the apartment. The location was as described, very central, apparently safe, on a pedestrian street with wonderful cafe'/bakeries and art galleries, just moments from the Rambla, Barri Gotic and metro station. In spite of the busy location the apartment was very quiet.
The apartment was worn, quite shabby (without a chic counterpart) and lacked amenities such as garbage pail, instructions to running the apartment, a bar of soap, and hot water for more than a 90 second shower (which in late November was a real bummer.) The one window/atrium door in the apartment did not adequately close, allowing a cool breeze to permeate the unheated apartment (there was an electric heater that was of little help.) There were tangled electrical wires throughout and a 3 inch length of (live?) wire jutting out from the wall inches from our heads where we slept. The bed loft accommodates a matrimonial size mattress but little more and it is quite close to the ceiling so sitting up in bed without hitting our heads on a ceiling beam required care. Likewise, going to sleep after a day of experiencing Barcelona required going down on all four and literally crawling onto the mattress once we arrived at the top of the rail-less ladder. With such little head-room we found a metal hook screwed into one of the ceiling beams adjacent to the bed to be unsafe. Most importantly: there was no alternative exit from the apartment in case of fire and no fire alarm.
The building in which the apartment is located was dingy, had some 50 stairs to walk up and no lift. The stair area is coated with dust, poorly lit and unkempt, throughout our stay there were 3 gas tanks (hopefully empty) parked next to the apartment door. Arguably, these are out of Gioia's control, but travelers beware.
Our reservation was for 5 nights, we left after 3, having relocate to a nearby hotel.
We had a great time. The flat was just right for us. the perfect balance of quiet but right in the middle of it all. all arrangements went exactly to plan. thank you.
We were very happy to meet Gioia and she has a great music style ;)
She took care of everything in the flat and was very careful. Besides, we had some nice beers and wine together and ended up missing her when she was gone... Thanks Gioia!
Gioia is a great person and a great friend; responsible, caring, interesting and intelligent and overall just a lovely human being. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her as a renter, host or a roommate. She is honest, fair, communicates clearly and understanding of other's perspectives and needs.
