We never met Gerta, but everything was clean and ready when we arrived. The location was great in terms of being close to the beach, but for anyone not used to public transportation, it takes a bit of effort to travel anywhere. We had to figure out bus schedules, train systems, etc. and having more information on that would've been helpful.
This room is on the top level of the house which meant a lot of steep, skinny stairways. Just be prepared with luggage. The views are great and the bed was comfortable, but there is no air conditioning. Our room was a sauna. The first night we arrived we actually walked to a CVS a mile away just to purchase fans because even those weren't in the rooms (nor are there ceiling fans). The sleeping temperature was not comfortable at all. Sharing a bathroom with other guests usually worked out well, but one of them ate some of our food in the kitchen and left the remainder and some crumbs on the counter (not reflecting anything poorly on Gerta with this... not her fault!). Considering this was my first time booking with airbnb, that single event would make me reconsider sharing space again in the future.
We loved our room and having a private bath. Location was great as well, we biked through the neighborhood and to the beach. We drove into the city for day trips, but you can also take public transit (learned from other Airbnb guests at the house at the time.) Since there are 3 rooms upstairs with a shared bath and 1 with a private bath on the main floor, it had a feel of staying at a quaint hostel as we met other people staying there, but not the host.
postive: super clean, very easy to get downtown (once you figured it out yourself), free parking, nice kitchen, plenty of towels, safe neighborhood
negative: room cannot be locked, we stayed there when it was really hot and there is no air conditioning, at least a fan would have been nice as we barely slept due to the enormous heat. A little more information from the host would have been nice, especially as main door of the house was always open as other airbnb guests did not know how to lock the door again.
Although we did not get to meet Gerta (she was on vacation when we stayed) her instructions before we arrived were clear and very helpful! Her house is completely beautiful, we couldn't believe it when we first pulled up!! We walked to the train station and got the subway into Boston everyday but it was far to walk for anyone who doesn't like walking. However a cab (to the station) is only $5.50 which is very reasonable!! If we return to Boston, we would very much like to stay here again! Thankyou Gerta!!
Gerta wasn't there. We were able to get in even though she wasn't there. Nice location. We had a little difficulty communicating regarding the parking permits.
We had a lovely stay in Winthrop. The room is clean and spacious, with a big comfortable bed. The ensuite bathroom is great. We didn't have the chance to meet Gerta, but had nice contact with all the other airbnb guests. We didn't have a car, but there is a small supermarket nearby and you can travel to Boston in about 30 minutes by bus and train.
Gerta's communication in advance of arrival was perfect. The house is beautiful and the room was exactly as advertised. Very clean room, restroom, & kitchen areas. Nice neighborhood, too. We definitely would return and recommend staying here!
Gerta's house was beautiful and in a nice neighborhood. Didn't have any issues getting there. Gerta and her family were gone on vacation, so we didn't get to meet her. The house was nice and clean and ready for us when we got there. My only issue was that we didn't realize that we would be sharing the house with 3+ other families. That information was not given to us when we booked the room, but was not an issue. Everyone we stayed with was nice and friendly and was not a bother. Gerta is a nice host.
Exactly as portrayed. Everything we needed. Walking distance to the beach. Cute small town, 15 min from downtown Boston.
Gerta gave detailed arrival instructions and we settled in easily. It's a comfortable house in a pleasant laid-back area with a supermarket nearby as well as several restaurants and a 7-11. The cafe across the park next to the convenience store does great breakfasts, but we also utilised the spacious kitchen. There were other guests but we basically never saw or heard them due to our busy schedule, so there were no problems sharing the bathroom. The room was small but had a walk in wardrobe which was great. The Orient Heights T stop is a short bus ride away and the bus stops in front of the park, despite the lack of marked bus stop. Taxi from Boston Logan was $20. Don't forget to check out Winthrop Beach!
