This is a very charming stone home in Tuscany - exactly as I had hoped! It's spacious, well-stocked with supplies to make an Italian dinner (which we did), but we spent most nights w/ a charcuterie plate and wine on the patio, watching the sunset over Greve, Chianti (stunning). We watched the supermoon from the bed - the views are incredible! It's quiet and private, the bed is comfy, the two bathrooms are convenient, as is the washer (she even has clothes pins outside for drying). This is a wonderful home! Simona was a great communicator, answering questions and giving directions to the house (which is about 15 min drive from charming town center). We didn't get to meet her, and were greeted instead by her father-in-law, a wonderful man who helped get us settled. Our best memories from our Italy trip were the sunsets in this home. It's a great place, centrally located to get to wine-tasting regions (we visited San Gimingiano, Siena, Montepulciano). If you come from Florence, or drive the region, we recommend taking SR222, not the autostrada. Beautiful!
We were greeted by Simona's father in law who made us very welcome in the house.
It was exactly as described, comfortable with a magnificent view.
Only 50 mins by bus to Florence.
Also a great spot to explore many different locations.
This house is FANTASTIC. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a few days of peace in the countryside. My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and couldn't have been happier that we did. The house is perfectly situated only five minutes from a town with a coop and restaurants, but it is still remote enough to feel like you are in your own little paradise. There are also other towns easily reachable by car within 20-30 minutes with plenty of places to eat and walk around. The house is just as described with a kitchen including plenty of equipment for cooking (which we did lots of) and two bathrooms. Check in and check out were super easy. The master bedroom...what can I say about that view? What you see in the picture here is 1,000 times better in real life. The table on the patio is perfect for dinners outdoors and the whole yard is incredible for having a leisurely day. On boring days at home now, my husband and I mentally go back to that place and feel the calm we felt while staying there. I highly recommend this place!
Simona's farmhouse is very quiet and beautiful. It has excellent view, nice garden, and comfortable beds. We cooked every breakfast there, really enjoyed to have breakfast in the garden. The only negative is there is no wifi in the farmhouse, but it is understandable for that kind farmhouse.
Our stay in this Tuscan house was a great experience. The house was clean and spacious and had all the facilities you'd need for a decent stay including a great backyard where we had breakfast and dinner. It is in an ideal position close to the main areas like Siena and Firenze as well as some wonderful local towns. You can get down to Greve which is only a 3-4 min car trip and it has a nice warm locals and a supermarket, and a few good open air restaurants. Domenic, Simona's father in law, was very friendly and greeted us on time on both our arrival and departure. We were a family two adults and two teenagers and whilst the cottage was spacious, the double bunks were a bit tight for our kids. It was not an issue for us, but if you had smaller children, the top of the stairs would be a bit of a safety issue. All in all, a memorable stay and very easy communication with Simona, the host.
Simona's cottage was beautiful and cozy - the perfect Tuscan retreat. The kitchen was fully stocked with all cookware and with the cottage conveniently located a quick drive to Greve you have everything you need. Our favourite part was watching the sun set over the hills while sitting out enjoying a meal with local chianti.
We wanted to spend a week in Tuscany to share a special birthday - and what a fabulous place we found! The gorgeous location of the house in the Chianti hills made for views to remember from dawn to dusk. With a car the nearby cities of Florence, Sienna and Pisa are within easy driving distance and a venture further to Lucca made an extremely enjoyable day trip. We made full use of the kitchen cooking up meals sourced from ingredients at local farmers' markets and the well-stocked Coop supermarket in Greve. The weather was glorious and made driving in the hills a very special experience. Domenico greeted us warmly and with a very helpful tour of the house explaining how to use the water and gas systems. Thank you Simona for opening your house to us and to Domenico for being so close by should there have been any problems - of which there were none. A wonderful week's stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at Simona's house, and would certainly come back again if we have the chance. The house itself it great, especially the backyard and the gorgeous view of Tuscany. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed, and there was plenty of plates and silverware present. It was really nice to be able to cook after a week in other parts of Italy eating at restaurants every meal.
The town nearby is great, a lot of nice shops and restaurants. There are also plenty of nearby vineyards.
Check in and check out were smoothly. Simona was not able to meet us, so we met with her father in law, Domenico. Domenico was great to talk to (if you have some command of Italian), although I'm sure it would have been fine had I not known any. He gave us a few suggestions in the town and the surrounding vineyards.
The only negative was the hot water pressure. On the positive side, even though the pressure is low and you can't run more than one hot water source at once, there is a continuous water heater so you never run out. Again, only a minor nuisance. Note that we didn't contact Simona about this because we figured it was expected given the age of the house and didn't really care. But I figured I would mention it in case this is a real issue for anyone.
Thanks to Simona and Domenico for this great experience. We hope to come back soon!
Simona and her family have been very nice, they left the apartment clean, I would be very glad to have her back in Villefranche.
