The cottage was great! Amber welcomed U.S. and was a good resource. We enjoyed this part of Hawaii - an amazing (but strenuous) hike to the floor of Waipio Valley, and an easier but equally remarkable visit to the beach at Pololu. Great dinner at Sushi Rock.
We stayed in Ed's cottage for 2 nights; it's beautifully located, very clean en convenient, walking distance from restaurants and shops of Kapaau. It feels off the beaten path, nice and quiet atmosphere, but still only 30 minute drive to Hapuna beach and other beautiful beaches on the Kohala coast. We can highly recommend the short drive to the Polulu Valley lookout where we hiked the trail down towards an amazing black sand beach. Coffee mill in closeby town Hawi is a great spot for breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.
FANTASTIC place to stay. We felt at home throughout the whole week.
Ed was very clear and communicated directions to the house and instructions for entering the home. Once on site Amber was there to answer any questions we had and welcomed us all with Aloha.
The home was exactly as described.
We were there during a HEATWAVE and no trade winds so the days were quite Hot and we all crowded around the one fan that was available. This weather is not normal to Kohala so we were not disappointed by the lack of fans. The nights cooled right down so sleeping was great.
Beds were very comfortable and kitchen worked great for our needs.
This home is within walking distance to very good and affordable local cuisine and COFFEE! Although the French press was good.
There was no traffic noise and the yard and home were very private.
This intimate, charming cottage was the perfect setting for our stay in Kapaau. The cottage was just the right size for a couple, and it felt private in the lush tropical setting. It was a great location to explore both locally and other parts of the island. Tastefully decorated and comfortable, we settled right in and even cooked a few meals with ease. Ed was away but made sure we had everything we needed ahead of time. He let us know that Amber would be taking care of the property during our stay- Amber was friendly and helpful with advice about where to get good chocolate, the best horse-riding excursions and brought us fresh limes upon greeting us! It was a wonderful stay and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ed's beautiful cottage!
The door was unlocked when we arrived from our long road journey, so we could collapse and take a nap on the comfy bed surrounded by windows with views of gorgeous tropical plants outside. Every detail of the cottage was attractive and functional. We enjoyed both Hawi (for an elegant dinner at Bamboo) and Ka'paau with its good restaurants and many public facilities (the olympic-sized pool for swimming and the library for researching local history). Our host was charming and helpful.
This really is a hidden Gem located in quaint village of Kepaau which is placed perfectly for exploring the North Kohala coastal area by car and allows you to talk to small shops and restaurants within few minutes. You must eat at Minnie's !
Set in a tropical garden full of fruit trees this functional cottage's best feature is the outlook from sitting on the wooden bench in the afternoon or early evening watching the sunset through the trees.
Fellow Brit Ed manages the rental with friendly interaction and is very at tentative during booking and arrival process.
Being situated in a rainforest setting as it is you will need to be at ease with sharing the property with some "locals" such as Gecko's, centipedes and ants. But if your willing to accept this and forgo some other home comforts you will be rewarded with a thoroughly enjoyble stay just as we didn't Just wish it was longer than the 2 nights we spent there so I could 'scrump' some for fruit before Ed gets up.
We are not at all into resort experiences, so this cottage was just what we were looking for as part of our week on the island of Hawai'i. Secluded, low key, part of a neighborhood, short walk to a handful of restaurants/shops and a state park. The cottage was just as described - - one large room with a bed, sofa, desk, table plus kitchen and bath - - with amazing light and fresh air from the open ceiling and windows. Clean, simply/tastefully decorated. Was a great home base for daily adventures on the north side of the island and just to eat in, read and relax in solitude.
Ed is a delightful host- he was in close contact with us prior to our trip and upon arrival, providede lots of local knowledge and recommendations. The cottage is lovely - vey clean and quiet, all glass across the back and sides overlooking lush greenery. The cottage is very well located, short walking distance to local restaurant, yoga class and municipal parrk with gym and pool.
Thank so much Ed- we had a great stay!
Thanks to Ed for a wonderful stay. We had 5 nights at his Hawi Hideaway. It really felt like home and we very much enjoyed seeing and talking to Ed daily. He has wonderful tips of what to do and where to hike and eat. We've moved on to other parts of the island but miss Ed and his cottage. We'll certainly come back in the next year or two or three. The lychee tree was great, tons of windows made us feel like we were in nature and the place was very cozy with a great bed, shower, couch, etc. Good jumping off point for northern Big Island, central for natural exploration. Also, thai food cart in Hawi on Tuesdays and Saturdays!
This place was fantastic and Ed was the perfect host. The cottage is at the back of a larger house, but still feels personal and provate. Ed came to greet us the day we arrived with an armful of fresh lychees and was great with a series of local recommendations, including one for local live music the night we got there. The place was clean and well equipped and was extremely comfortable (lots of natural light and ventilation). I'd definitely recommend this place. Thanks Ed!
Perfect Sam. This is the kind of response that makes it all worth while. Thanks for staying at the cottage.
Safe travels to you both, and aloha.
