I am a translator. My other passion is playing tennis. I would love to welcome you in my duplex.
Extraordinary apartment and a wonderful location. Jean was so friendly and helpful, it was a real joy.
Jean's apartment is very large and on two levels. You can actually see end to end on the lower level, which is about a 40m (120') view. This lower area comprises the kitchen at one end, a bathroom with claw-foot tub, a separate toilet, a smallish bedroom with a 4-poster bed, and the dining area/living room with its huge couch, which was very popular with my family.
Upstairs is about half this length, and has a bedroom with an ensuite shower/toilet (a wet room actually). Three double bedrooms total upstairs. The apartment dates from the late 1600s, there are many original wood beams (many low!) and two fairly steep staircases. The kitchen is well-equipped, with a 5-burner gas stove. The decor is a mix of antiques are some very cool 1960s pieces. Jean's library is multi-lingual, and is really quite good. You can play the excellent stereo via Bluetooth.
The apartment is on the third floor and is bright and friendly, in the summer getting wonderful late afternoon light. There's an elevator, a big plus. The apartment is very quiet, almost like being in the country. The other residents I met, which seemed to include an English contingent, were all pretty friendly.
I'm a big fan of the Marais (4th. Arr), and personally, I think the St. Paul location is hard to beat. It's about 5 minutes walk from the river and Ile St. Louis, and the same distance in the other direction to Rue St. Antoine, which a great neighborhood street with three or four boulangeries, two supermarkets, a cheese shop, a chocolate shop, bars, restaurants and the St. Paul metro (website hidden). Paul Village is at the end of the Rue Charles V, and has a lot of curio, antique, photo, restaurants and bric-a-brac shops . There's also an American food and drink shop on the corner of Charles V and St. Paul.
As you might expect, Jean is very attached to his wonderful old apartment, so you need to take good care to treat it well. I found Jean was very friendly and helpful, and would recommend both him and the apartment for a stay in Paris.
Everyone in our family of four enjoyed the full use of kitchen and the views from our windows, we all slept well, an oasis of calm amidst great shopping and cultural heritage.
Excellent guest! Jean was in our apartment, Jean is an educated person, clean and neat. We found our apartment in harmony.
