I call Shangai my base and travel on business. I don't smoke, I don't drink. I really like meeting new people, and know have to have a great time responsibly. I also love pizza, spicy Chinese food, water polo and most recently gaelic football.

Great way to visit the city and get an expat experience for a few days. All people there are really nice, they probably have a party for you whatever the day you'll land in Shanghai. Perfect central location 2 mn from MRT "People Square"
My husband and I stayed with Alex for one night during a layover in Shanghai. The apartment has a 'college dorm' feel, the location is excellent and Alex and his roommates provided great advice for us leading up to and during our stay. Alex was so helpful that he actually walked us over to a local restaurant and placed our order for us in Mandarin - talk about going above and beyond! My only complaints are that we booked a room with en suite bathroom and the bathroom was out of order so we had to use the common bathroom which was shared by other guests as well as the locks on our bedroom door didnt work. The locks were not a major concern as we felt very comfortable with the host and other guests. Overall I wouod recommend this place for others based on location and helpfulness of the host.
Alex's place is awesome. An entire floor in a Shanghai highrise. The people there—and there seem to always be people there—were a ton of fun. Had a great night or two and hanging out/partying was available, but never bothered me or kept me up. I'd stay there again in a second.
Great value for money, great location. (Don't search for a red carpet though, that's gone, 2 red lanterns and take exit 25 from People Square Metro station.
For sure not clean, but the friendly guys make all up for that. I got a private room but no curtains.
Do ask for a key downstairs as the doorbell was failing half the time
I had a good time overall, but you need to be aware of a couple of things.
Book this property only if you are ready to party any time, and do not mind people chatting in front of your door/bed up till morning. In that case you gonna have a great time, meet nice people, and get a cool sneak peak into the life of international young professionals and students in Shanghai.
The location is simply awesome. The guys are very welcoming, but you will not really be treated as a paying guest as in a hotel, rather as a buddy just crashing at their place, thus facilities depend on availability and provided as is, meaning no cleaning up, no clean sheets, etc. However, they make their best to help in case you need something.
If you are OK with this, it will be a great place for you.
I had an amazing time at Alex' apartment in Shanghai, his brothers Raleigh and Cody were very accommodating and helpful even if Alex wasn't there it was always a blast hanging out with them in the apartment. If ever I come back to Shanghai, I'll definitely come and stay at their apartment again. Thanks guys!
A place to AVOID! When we arrived nothing was as we described on the ad. The room was not the advertised one, it was much much smaller (we were supposed to be four in one room) and so impossible to walk anywhere in the room. The bed shits were NOT clean (we found hairs and stains all over them). The fridge was full of passed food and drinks... The cupboards were all full of stuff too and we had to make room ourselves to put our clothes in (when we are originally supposed to have a walk-in wardrobe...).
The room was so dirty we were seriously thinking about going somewhere else. The supposed daily maid is only paid to clean common area and so to have the room cleaned we had to pay her ourselves (and even then we didn't dare walk in the room and bathroom without shoes on...).
By the way the maid doesn't come everyday but only 3 times a week.
If you want your laundry done you have to be at the apartment to give your laundry bad to the maid (who is obviously there when you are out).
Other MAJOR problem : if you are only a short term guest you will NOT HAVE A KEY. They tell you someone will always be home to open the door but that is not true. That may work if you are in Shanghai working (but still depending on someone is very annoying) but if you are traveling then let me tell you I have been outside of the apartment without anyway to get in more than once.
This whole party apartment idea may be a good concept if you are willing to go out all the time. Otherwise having people still partying just outside of your bedroom at 6 in the morning is NOT fun. The doors are so thin you can hear everything. If it's not this than it's someone ringing at the door in the middle of the night and it lasts forever as no one wakes up to open the door.
I would never ever stay in this place again. It's the dirtiest ugliest place. The pictures show the apartment as it may have been ONCE but really I haven't seen it that clean or ordered EVER.
DO NOT STAY HERE
This apartment is in a perfect location! Walking distance to the bund, short cab ride to great nightlife and everything you need just outside the building's doors. Convinces that hotels don't have such as kitchen & washer. If you're young & traveling solo, this place is perfect for you.
My friend and I had a great time staying at this apartment. The location is perfect and all the guys who live here were very cool. They were welcoming, fun, and helped us have a good time in Shanghai. I would recommend this place for easy-going people looking for a fun, unique and at times crazy Shanghai experience.
We were having such a good time in Shanghai that we extended our stay in the apartment for an extra couple days. My friend and I loved staying at Alex's place with all the various roommates-- it was definitely a party flat!
Alex and his group were excellent guests. They seemed to really enjoy the home, and treated it respectfully. We had a mutually flexible attitude and worked together on check in/out. There were no issues at all. Truly a nice person and good guest!
