The host was perfect. Very flexible with our arrival time, provided everything we needed, and even gave some great advice on where to eat. The lodge itself is exactly as described, in a great condition, and has everything you need for a long weekend getaway. It has beautiful views from the windows (it was a bit cold to sit outside in the middle of November, but luckily the heating provided allows the lodge to be kept nice and warm), and is in a great location for visiting all the attractions in "1066 country". Make sure to look up a few of the local pubs which O has recommended in the booklet he provides with the lodge, as they serve up great food!
The hosts where perfect , very friendly and flexible. Lodge was exactly as described , finished to a very high standard and has everything you need for a few days escape. Beautiful location on a private plot of farm land , good local pubs and attractions ! 11/10 !
O made us extremely welcome, showed us round the flats and helped us with places to visit and eat.
O. has created a perfect hideaway two hours away from London. He's gentle and very sympathic and we felt like hone during our stay. A Lot of Things to see around westfield and for short walls....1066 path crossed just behind the orchard ;-) we like to go there again ....
A truly lovely place to stay, perfect in every way. I can't recommend it enough.
We had a great time in the Downoakabbey Lodge. Perfect location for two. Very comfortable and clean lodge, nice garden, quiet surroundings. Everything was well organize by O. and we felt very welcome. We can recommend this place very much to anybody who looks for a quiet and comfortable accommodation, close enough to reach out for London, the seaside or do some sightseeing in the area. We definitely would come back one day.
Many thanks to O.!
The Westfield cottage met and even exceeded our expectations. It's compact (30 or so square meters, I'd estimate) but intelligently, even cunningly, laid out so as to feel more spacious. Sleek is a word that comes to mind to describe it and its appurtenances. We cooked most of our dinners during our stay, and the batterie de cuisine was entirely adequate for managing that. Also, having access to the large and very attractive garden makes the size of the cottage's interior matter less. The setting couldn't be improved on, with a sweeping view across a broad green valley up to a ridge behind and below which is Hastings and the English Channel. The cottage makes an excellent base to explore this area. We drove to Rye to visit Lamb House, where Henry James lived; to Hastings for its Old Town, the setting for TV's "Foyle's War"; to the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where we took a long walk; to the lovely Cinque Port town of Winchelsea; to the extravagant Sissinghurst Gardens, like Lamb House a National Trust property; to Romney Marsh, where we did a walk and visited several churches, including the extraordinary Thomas a Becket church; and to Canterbury to view the cathedral. We only saw O. on our arrival but he emphasized that if we had any problems to phone. We didn't have any but had we I'm confident they would have been taken care of. We recommend this property with enthusiasm.
A great spot very relaxing with a comfy bed and a lovely garden. There are lovely country pubs close by and a wide range of places to visit from Battle to Sissinghurst.
Exactly like the website photographs, no unpleasant surprises, every small detail was covered, O was a very gracious host,. troubleshooted a few issues for us quickly and efficiently, would have no hesitation recommending the property to family and friends.
We had an amazing weekend over in the cottage. The house is small, cozy and full of details: a safe for having the key available at any time, full kitchenette, electric "chimeney-like" heater, dimming lights, electric blankets, coffee, fresh apples, big towels on a warm radiator... Pretty much a perfect location for a countryside escape for two. I think the summer might be the perfect time of the year for it, but we went on a cold and rainy weekend of november and everything was great. I really would consider coming back. Oh, and O was a terrific host, even though we didn't get to meet him in person.
