We enjoyed the flat. Perfect location in city centre and great view. Umut was a friendly and helpful host.
Umut was a great host! The appartment is the perfect starting point to discover the city. It is tidy and clean and has an awesome view on the Bosporous. Can recommend it to everyone!
First, the location is awesome and the views are spectacular. The area of town is definitely safe and very up and coming. It's in the back streets in Beyoglu, which is where a lot of hipster cafes, design studios, and artists are. That being said, it is down some small alleys that are a little shady at first and in a building that's quite run down.
The flat was nice enough, but it did have the shower not separated from the bathroom, which can be a little annoying with water everywhere after anyone takes a shower. There is also no living room space to hang out if you want to do that, just the kitchen and two bedrooms.
The photos might be a little old in some cases - there is now a water heater in the kitchen where the birds on the wall were and things are re-arranged in several rooms. There is also a styrofoam covering on one wall in the two bed bedroom due to water damage I believe.
Lastly, it was quite difficult to get a hold of Umut, which doesn't seem to have been the experience of others here, but he basically didn't respond until the day before we arrived with instructions for how to get into the apartment. We eventually had to walk to a cafe up the hill to get the key, but they didn't know anything about it and eventually it got sorted out. We also had some cleanliness issues with lots of dust and hair balls coming out from under the beds throughout our stay (probably because it was quite warm and we had to leave the windows open).
Overall, I'd say there's probably similar places that might be a bit nicer in the area. I'd definitely recommend staying in the Beyoglu area though since it's in perfect distance to everything and is the best place to find great food (off of the main roads like Istiklal cd though).
Nothing short of magic and peaceful... And staying at Sima Peace made it so. The place is an absolute dream of counterculture wish-life-was-all-like-this rustic simplicity and the people: family. A short walk through orange and pomegranate groves to the most epic beach we saw in all of our travels on the turquoise coast in Turkey! When Aynur said "welcome to your turkish home" upon arrival, she meant exactly that - we felt truly at home here and her DELICIOUS home cooked dinners and elaborate breakfasts meant we didn't have to want for anything!
We were fortunate enough to have a couple staying in the bungalow next to ours who had been coming back again and again and truly made the experience - a family dinner complete with dancing and singing, conversation, shared wine and a nighttime swim in the phosphorescent waters we otherwise would have missed! I now whole heartedly know why they keep returning and hope to do the same. I trust that we will. We cried when we said goodbye to travel on to Capadoccia.
This is a great place to stay if you want a totally laid back 1960's type experience. It's pretty basic accommodation but nice and clean and with good food and ambience. The beach is reasonably close (about five minutes walk and the town centre is about 10 minutes away. If you want to get away from the standard, uniform accommodation experience this is a good place to stay that is welcoming and idiosyncratic.
We had a lovely stay at Umut's apartment. The apartment itself is simple and small but clean and has everything you need for a short stay. It also has a beautiful view of Istanbul! However it is five flights of stairs up and no lift. Umut was very welcoming and gave us some great recommendations for the area. Checking in and out was also very easy. Thank you Umut!
very charming pension in a calm part of cirali, runned by the adorable aynur and her as-adorable entourage . having walking around quiet a bit in the village, this is probably the best option if you stay in cirali. also, it's cheap, not least considering all extra services we got when we needed!
you will immediately be included in the sima peace pshyosphere and it will probably make you stay there for longer then your initial plans… not a least because of the amazing, organic food - perfect for vegetarians and vegans: and we even learned how to make kabak (zucchini) köfte from aynurs original recipe. it's a really peaceful atmosphere: when you're not on the close-by-lying beach with crystal-clear water or walking on the lycian way, you can chat with the parrot, cuddle with the cats, listen to aynurs amazing stories or just relax in the hammock. when we left the place after four nights, it felt like we where leaving old friends!
Umut was very helpful in finding the apartment, and provided us with useful information about great places to visit around town! The apartment is small but the views are amazing and the location is perfect. We did great with four people staying for a week, and I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a home base for exploring Istanbul!
We really enjoyed our stay! We were greated with a warm welcome by Aynur and treated like family. She provided info about the area and even gave us a torch to take to the flames. It was a bit outside Cirali center, but not too far and really quiet and pleasant. It's very close to the beach and within about 30 minutes walk to the entrance of the Chimera flames. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast with Aynur which was really delicious and a great deal. We really recommend this place!
I stayed here with my family and it was perfect. The apartment was clean and was just what we were looking for with beautiful views and a basic but functional kitchen. Umut was very helpful and had prepared lots of information about Istanbul for us when we arrived. He also took the time to show us some of his favourite restaurants and local spots and we enjoyed his recommendations. We spent 12 days in Istanbul and had time to explore many neighbourhoods and we did not regret our decision to base ourselves in the Galata area - it was vibrant and out of the tourist crush!
