I'm a super mentally and physically active grandmother who also loves to read, explore Mexico City, eat and travel. I've also recently started doing traditional (Yang family) tai chi and Qigong.

It was a great great trip and we both feel extremely fortunate to have Mimi as our host. She took great care of us and it is a great pleasure knowing her. Mimi introduced us to fun places and new things. We enjoyed visiting the murals of Diego Rivera, azulejos and lots of other places, and we absolutely loved the market on wheel! She really made our experience complete. On the last day, we had some trouble finding a taxi to the airport and Mimi asked some of her friends to arrange the trip for us. All in all, Mimi had a great home and Mexico City is a great city. We really look forward to revisiting Mexico some time in the future.
México city is amazing, the place is in a great neighborhood, Mimi is great too!
The house is beautiful!
The only thing that I recommend is something to cover your eyes to sleep because there is a lot of light in the room in the morning. :)
Grazie Mimi see you soon :-)
Vuelvan!!! (email hidden)
Mimi is an unobtrusive and helpful host who generously shared her vast knowledge of Mexico City. Her apartment is situated in an oasis of calm in that hectic city, but is close to transit connections of every kind if you need to get anywhere in the city (or even on the regional bus), it's easy to do so.
It was my first experience with Airbnb, and it was incredible, especially because of Mimi. She is the most gracious hostess, makes her home become ours, gives us tips and sincerely cares about our experience. The neighborhood is safe, the building is extremely charming, close to supermarket, bakery and the metro Chapultepec. When I say close, is really close, it's like 2 blocks. You can walk by Paseo de la Reforma and Bosque de Chapultepec, and still return home without facing traffic. I really want to come back, Mexico City is a great place to meet, but I'm sure it was great because of Mimi.
Staying at Mimi's was my first experience with airbnb, and to Mexico, and it was a delight. After great instructions and welcoming emails, Mimi met me out the front of her beautiful home then sat me down for a chat and a pot of tea. Accompanying her to a friend's place introduced me to travel on buses and the metro. With Mimi's instructions I was riding the metro like a local in no time, something I had not expected to do with my meagre smattering of Spanish. She is wonderful company, a mine of information and truly welcomed me to feel at home. Her home is in a very safe and easy part of the city to explore from. I look forward to keeping in contact and would love to stay again. Thanks Mimi.
We really enjoyed staying at Mimi´s house! Mimi made us feel right at home the second we arrived and the duration of our stay. Her home felt like home; we felt like we belonged there. Her house was clean and located in an excellent area. Mimi was also very helpful in giving us suggestions on places to see or things to do or places to eat. We would definitely stay with Mimi again if we need a place to stay!
Gracias Mimi.
I loved my stay with Mimi in her charming apartment in the beautiful neighborhood of La Condesa. It was fun to explore the Tuesday Market that sprang up right outside her front door and stroll the quiet streets replete with small cafes and restaurants. Mimi herself was a fount of "off the beaten track" Mexico City information. She really bowled me over when I asked for private guide suggestions and she mentioned her friend "Moshde" and her company called "Journeys Beyond the Surface." So, I jumped on Trip Advisor to discover that "Journeys" is listed as Numero Uno of 29 activities in Mexico City! How cool is that? Needless to say, I experienced two superb days of private touring thanks to Moshde (and Mimi). If you love big cities that are alive and vibrant, then you will love Mexico City. I, for one, plan to return and will be beating a path to Mimi's door.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to have met Mimi this past week. She is an amazing woman with a warm, caring, gentle, and wise soul. The special blend of coffee she brought me is remarkable but I most certainly am going to miss her when I have my morning cup. She is a perfect guest - comfortable to be around, independent, intellectually curious and stimulating, positive, and neat/tidy. Getting to meet people like Mimi is exactly why I wanted to be involved in AirBnB. It is about building community and relationships.
We had a wonderful time staying with Mimi and she was a generous, thoughtful and worldly host. Her spacious apartment had great character and we were made to feel very much at home. She was very welcoming and proved to be a mine of useful and reliable information about where to go and how to get there. Her recommendations of resturants were spot on and saved us alot of time. The location in Condesa, 5 minutes from the Metro station was ideal and the area felt very safe. We felt very at ease in her company, had some stimulating conversations and left with very warm feelings as she put us in a taxi to the airport.
I arrived at Mimi's home in the historic Edifico Condesa at night--around 10 pm--and buzzed her apartment from the street. A moment later I heard my name called from above, and raised my eyes to a smiling, waving Mimi, poking her head out the living room window. "Here comes the key!" she said, and tossed it down to me. I climbed the stairs to her apartment to find the lights on, and Mimi ready to give me a tour of her gracious vintage home (the pictures are accurate; it is charming). At the end of a long day of travel--my first trip outside of the U.S.--the warm welcome was just what I needed.
Mimi's home is in an ideal location for visitors. Colonia Condesa is a beautiful neighborhood with lots of big old trees, small shops and restaurants, and a seemingly diverse population. It is in walking distance to some very fun, trendy neighborhoods such as Colonia Roma, with great shops, cafes, and nightlife. It is also just blocks from public transportation (both Micro Bus and Metro), which Mimi can help you confidently navigate. It really was very easy to get from place to place, even for someone with chronic navigational difficulty like me. If you are there on a Tuesday, you can look forward to the treat of an open air market set up right outside your door, with loads of fresh fruit, good street food, and as is characteristic of Mexico, just about anything else you could imagine. To summarize, it is safe, and convenient, and beautiful.
All of these things aside, Mimi's hospitality is what makes her place to highly recommendable. She is always eager to answer questions or give suggestions (and she knows a LOT). She makes coffee in the morning and shares fridge space. My traveling companion and I were invited to share a meal with her and her son, and his wife. By the end of our trip, we were calling her our honorary Mexican Grandmother, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Mexico City.
Count yourself lucky if you happened upon this listing; my stay with Mimi was no less than perfect. Located on a picaresque block, Mimi's apartment is close to the metro, stores, cafes and Chapultepec park, making it the perfect base from which to explore Mexico city. Her apartment is charming, clean and safe and very comfortable and her listing is an accurate description of her apartment. Mimi was very informed about museums, galleries and current events happening in her city and willingly shared any little tidbits, or local secrets. I look forward to returning to Mexico city and another stay with Mimi.
Mimi was introduced to me by her long time friend who is also my boss. I have been staying at Mimi's comfortable, light, airy apartment for 5 years, both for pleasure and work. Mimi knows and loves Mexico City and is always happy to play tour guide with me. She is an excellent cook and enjoys walking through the parks and streets for exercise. Mimi knows Tai Chi and even had us practicing the moves in the park. Your experience of Mexico City will be enhanced by staying with Mimi! Remember, LOCATION, LOCATION! She has one of the best!
I can recommend Mimi Duke as a host with high honors. I stayed at Mimi's Mexico City apartment in the Spring of 2010. I was teaching in a small town 2 hours south of the city and this was a perfect stopping place to and from the airport on my way there and back. Mimi provides a safe, clean, lovely, friendly home for guests. I cannot imagine a better place to stay, in such a fabulous neighborhood, and with an conscientious host. Mimi is the ideal host with clarity, warmth, and support for the tired traveler. The bedroom where I stayed was exquisitely comfortable, spacious, and restful. I enjoyed meeting Mimi as one of the highlights of my journey to Mexico.
Mimi will be a great travel companion! Easy-going, interesting and very sensitive to your needs, Mimi will be an entertaining person to help pass the time during long travel sessions or find distractions during delays. Having lived most of her life overseas in a developing country, Mimi will handle adventure well and be ready to try new experiences anywhere she goes.
If you'd like to experience what it feels like to live in an artistic neighbourhood in DF, this is the place for you. I lived with Mimi for two years while in college in Mexico, and wouldn't have lived anywhere else.
La Condesa is a great safe neighbourhood, with a lot of fun restaurants and bars within walking distance. The apartment is great, with a waterfall shower, historical decor, books galore, and best of all, la Mimi, who is warm and friendly, and has lived and travelled through Mexico for the last 40 years. She is always willing to share her travel tips on where to stay/visit/eat if you ask nicely:)
There is a great quesadilla stand at the corner (try the quesadillas de pollo, and quesadillas de papas). There's also an incredible bakery at the corner, which sells yummy freshly baked goods (if you go at around 5/6 p.m., the goods are fresh out of the oven). The Tuesday market is AMAZING, and literally at the building doorstep. It's well worth reserving a couple of hours for browsing through the colourful stalls. trying slices of freshly cut fruit, eating at the numerous stalls, buying artisan ware (ceramic pots/cups/funky figurines), and watching as locals go about their weekly shopping. The metro is about 5 blocks away, as is a supermarket. Chapultec park is a 10 minute walk and has several museums on-site. It's a nice place to while away a Sunday afternoon with the hundred other city dwellers.
Fun fact: They sometimes use the buildings on the block when filming telenovelas.
