I am a journalist living in NYC. I love to travel and ask difficult questions.
Very efficient communication prior to trip, easy to obtain access to place...place was exactly as advertised...great location and great accommodation for a trip to LA
Joanna was an excellent host throughout the whole process. She was friendly and easily contactable. She went above and beyond to help us get settled in her apartment.
The apartment itself was in great condition. The bedrooms were quite spacious and had a beautiful amount of light during the day. It was situated very close to a subway station and was about a 2 minute walk from Williamsburg bridge. While not exactly in the heart of hipster Williamsburg, it certainly was a short walk from it.
A great place to stay to get to know New York.
Joanna's place is located in the perfect location - you can't be more central in LA! We really enjoyed staying at her flat, it is very clean and has everything you ned. Another big plus is Joanna herself - she loves to be a host and is truly helpful with whatever you will need. Highly recommended!
Joanna was super helpful and organized with the details for the apartment. The apartment is perfect for the traveller requiring simple straight forward accommodation in LA. It was very clean and has a great kitchen. It suited my needs perfectly, i spent most of the day out and about and came home to sleep and collect my thoughts. The neighbours are super friendly and form a nice community atmosphere.
Formosa is more than an apartment is a community of nice friendly people! I'd come back here anytime.
Joanna is a great host and a truly kind and funny person! I only have good things to say about her way of accommodating us during our stay and she was a true lifesaver to take us in one night before our booking started when we had no place to sleep.
I stayed at the apartment for almost 4 months and felt right at home in the well equipped kitchen. Awesome location close to the M & J train which made my midtown commute very convenient. The area itself is just a stones throw away from the restaurant and bar heavy Bedford avenue. During the spring/summer it was also great to be close to the water and the east river ferry for a nice relaxing boat ride over to manhattan.
The street is fairly quiet to be New York and I had no problem sleeping with an open window, which often was a necessity as the apartment tends to get pretty warm.
All in all, I'm glad I had the opportunity to stay for such a long time in an amazing location and a great apartment. Most of all a big thanks to Joanna for making us feel welcome and she is definitely someone I hope to see over a beer when I come back to visit!
Our experience at Joanna's apartment was excellent.
Why should you stay here on your visit to NYC?
... the room is huge and the bed is very comfortable.
... the apartment is super clean and tidy.
... it is located 4 blocks from the last subway station on Brooklyn -20min from your room to the Lower East Side.
... the neighborhood has too many cool cafés and restaurants to check out.
... last but not least: Joanna is the best host! Her knowledge on NYC is impressive: from where to get cool outlet deals to where to buy last minute creamy shiny hand soap for a present. She's very open to sharing details about the city and the area to make your stay unforgettable. Very open and nice to talk to. Joanna is very helpful and she made quite a difference on our trip.
The apartment is charming, it's well located, and everything went smoothly. I would definitely come back.
Joanna was a perfect host and her room was ideal for my stay. The room is very spacious and well equipped. The apartment itself is great and has plenty of closets and extra space to store your things. Overall a very pleasant stay! Thank you Joanna!
Joanna is a really nice, generous host who made me feel welcome and comfortable. She offers a nice, spacious room for a reasonable fee. She's In South Williamsburg.. Very close to the JMZ (email hidden)., one stop in to Manhattan/Lower East Side.
The lobby/staircase of the building are not too clean/welcoming (smell like cigarette smoke)... and this isn't the main part of Williamsburg to hang out in, but it's a close 5-10 min walk to the hip Bedford or Havemeyer areas.
The main advantage here is the price...for a stay in a nice size room, clean apartment. And with a nice host.
Joanna was a really great guest - it helps that she is an Airbnb host and understands how things are. She was very understanding, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to the Airbnb community as a guest.
Excellent guest, very helpful and polite, we would like to have you again in our hotel
It was an absolute pleasure to host Joanna. She treated me to dinner the first night she arrived and I was instantly struck by her strength and intelligence. I definitely intend to see her again, when visiting New York. Looking forward to hearing more about her adventures in journalism.
As a friend, I've stayed with Joanna in her comfortable Williamsburg apartment many times and I'm always humbled by how friendly and accommodating she is. The guest room is enormous by New York standards – complete with a couch and a large desk – which is great if you're planning to get any work done while you're in the city or just need a place to escape to. It also enjoys fantastic sun throughout the day.
The place is just a short walk from some of New York's best and hippest bars and restaurants, and it's dead easy to get to Manhattan – you have the pick of several subway and bus lines, or you could just walk over the Williamsburg bridge, which is practically next door.
Joanna is excellent company – always good conversation, full of ideas for what to do around town, and always considerate of your comfort, privacy, and security.
I would recommend her without hesitation to any prospective AirBNBers.
