My husband and I own a watch repair and designer jewelry shop in WIlliamsburg, and love to explore the city with our 3 homeschooled children.

I had a great time at this apartment! Here are the pros and cons:
1) Location, Location, Location!!! - This apartment was right in the heart of Williamsburg, one of the coolest neighborhoods in Brooklyn. You will be 1/2 block away from the Bedford Ave stop on the L train. 1 stop and you're in Manhattan. Tons of really great restaurants in walking distance and Smorgasburg is 2-3 blocks away if you're in NYC for the weekend. 24 hour health food store literally next door. The area was safe and always buzzing with people!
2) Lisa was lovely to work with. She was really communicative and very helpful. Also, she was really flexible in-terms of check-in and check-out times. Our flight wasn't leaving until 10pm at night, and we were worried we'd have to lug our baggage around NYC all day before we left. However, Lisa let us stay in the apartment for as long as we needed! That was a big help for us.
Cons (Not many of them):
1) The apartment is as advertised. It's a small, damp, a little musty, and there is no natural light. It was perfect for my group because we were small and spent most of the day exploring NYC, but if you want something fancier, I'd look elsewhere.
2) The pull-out futon had no bed sheet. I'd suggest bringing my own sheet if you want to fit someone in the kitchen.
Overall, the pros outweigh the cons in my book. Definitely worth-it to check out this apartment if you plan on gallivanting around NYC for the majority of your stay.
Studio très sympa dans un quartier hipster qui bouge, plein de magasins et restaurants. 20 minutes de Manhattan par métro, supermarché bio 24/24 juste à côté.
Great place in a great neighbourhood.
24-hour market just next door and only a block away from the Bedford Av L train stop. Many cool shops and restaurants in the vicinity and just 20 minutes from Manhattan.
I had a wonderful time at Lisa and Leo's place. This was a long sublet - over a month - so I got to know all family members (sweet and beautiful). Everybody, including the neighbors (with whom the lovely garden in the back is shared), were welcoming and kind.
Location wise this is a very central spot - very close to the L train which takes you to Manhattan within few minutes, a walking distance from Greenpoint, McCarren Park and the waterfront. To whom this may concern: the area is very vegan friendly, including an allnight natural products convenient store next door, and another bigger and cheaper one a few blocks away.
The only thing that bothered me was that the apartment (being located in the basement) was a little dark and damp, but I quickly got used to it and it does worth all the pluses of the place.
Highly recommended for those looking to experience Williamsburg.
Lisa and Leo were very gracious hosts, good with communication and easy to coordinate with. They left us clean linens, a fresh bar of soap, and some coffee to make in the morning. Leo even stopped by to show us how to work the shower when we couldn't figure it out ourselves!
Their apartment is as advertised. It is a small, quirky, ground-level unit, and for my husband and me who were only visiting for a few nights it was cozy and perfect. The heat in the unit was very welcome as we stayed there for the New Year's holiday, and for such an incredible location it was mostly quiet. You can hear the metro go by periodically through the night but it's really soft. I'm a light sleeper and it did not bother me. I think there are kids upstairs who like to run around during the day and you can hear their feet pitter-pattering, but it's at reasonable hours and besides, I'm not spending all my time in the apartment when I'm in the heart of Williamsburg! The only thing I'd caution is that air flow into the bedroom (bunker?) isn't the greatest. Lisa and Leo do have a small fan set up to help with that, but I still had some congestion, even on meds. So if you have similar issues, be prepared.
The location really can't be beat. The metro is super easy to get to, as are great bars, cafes, restaurants, and even the Williamsburg movie theater if you're willing to walk a bit.
All in all, a happy stay and the price is definitely right. Thank you, Lisa and Leo, for sharing your lovely apartment with us!
Lisa and Leo were very friendly, communicative and made the entering/exiting a breeze.
If you need to be in the center of it all, this truly is the heart of Williamsburg. 1/2 block to the Bedford L and tons of restaurants of all price ranges around - including food trucks. Caution: you will have fun.
The apartment itself is a musty basement with a South American hostel / creepy museum feel. There's a "caution: enter at your own risk" sign on the door that at first I thought was a joke, but perhaps it's there for a reason? Heheh. It's one of the most quiet apartments I've experienced in NYC. Little sound whatsoever save the white noise of the AC. The shower has a high ease of use. My GF said she saw a bug of some kind, but I did not.
The backyard is romantic with a wooden table, chairs, sandbox (for the kids ;)) and christmas lights under a shelter. Internet works perfectly back there. Great place for evening drinks and morning coffees.
Rent the place if you don't have allergies and need to be rubbing elbows with all the action that is Brooklyn.
The best thing about this apartment is the location!! Nice and simple place with everything you need! It's small and dark but ideal when you plan on spending most of your time exploring the city! My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights there when visiting Brooklyn. We had the chance to enjoy the gorgeous and spacious backyard, the owners were very friendly!
We stayed a few nights here and had a great time. The bed was comfy, the kitchen functional, and I really enjoyed lounging on a futon in the kitchen while we cooked and talked. There is a beautiful back garden, and a nice organic store directly next door with fresh produce and COFFEE. The location was pretty phenomenal, close to the subway and a range of shops and bars.
Leo and Lisa were friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcome but not pressured. That's a good combination.
The apartment is not fancy, but the price and location were right on. It met our purposes, hanging out with friends and playing in the city, quite well.
Apt just as described, really great location..fan is very low but overall pleasant experience.
This was a great find for our New York visit!
The location was amazing (a few seconds from the vibrant and happening Bedford Avenue) which coupled with the price was pretty unbeatable.
Lisa was a great host, left us the keys and left us to get on with it without any fuss, also gave us advice about where to check out on Bedford Ave as we arrived a bit early to check in.
A/C worked well, shower is great and bed very comfortable. There is also a shared garden space which we were welcomed into if we wanted to chill out somewhere.
No natural light in the apartment with it being a basement which is a bit disorientating for knowing what the time is but hey, there's a clock, and it's great for sleeping.
All in all an excellent value option if you are spending time in NY and don't want to pay through the nose for somewhere you're going to spend minimal time.
Can't recommend the location enough. Great place to hang out and less than 10 mins to Manhattan on the subway (less than a block away)
Also only 5-10 mins walk to the East River Ferry which is $4.00 over to Manhattan and a great little journey to see some great views.
The place was as described. Clean, and Lisa was friendly and helpful with checking in and out. The ceiling fan in the bedroom is a bit on the low side, so be careful tall people! A bit mildewey and a few cockroaches, but this is to be expected from a basement suite. The locations is amazing and it's a great place to stay if you just need somewhere to crash and aren't picky about luxury.
Lisa and her kids were great. They took very good care of the apartment and we had no problems with the children. We would gladly have them return anytime.
