I am a college professor in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
I enjoy staying in unique places when I travel and I usually travel off the beaten path. I've stayed in Airbnbs in Alicante, Spain; Molins de Rey, Spain (booked under my wife's name); and in Chicago. I don't mind the idiosyncratic nature of Airbnb (like getting the apt. key from the neighbor at the pet store down the street or helping the apt owner load her car so she can clear out). I've also stayed in (non-Airbnb) homes in Mexico, Vietnam, Costa Rica, and Washington, DC. Ideally I'd like to stay on an Airbnb boat sometime, but they seem to be more expensive than apartments or homes.
I've been told I leave a place cleaner than I found it. I like to go grocery shopping locally and cook my own meals. I think grocery shopping in other places is one way to get to know the place as the locals see it, and a great way to meet locals.
I'm a "Horizon's Unlimited" Community member. It's a world-wide network of long-distance motorcycle travelers who host other travelers. I've had a round-the-world rider stay with us for a few weeks.
