From Baltimore, 34 years old.
Nichole (my daughter who stayed at Mason's) got back and rushed back to work. However, she told me to say that her stay at Mason's was perfect! And her stay in Vieques was as well--except for the gas station. Be sure to ask for instructions before going to the gas station. There are interesting cultural norms--line up on the wrong side of the road and pump 2 does not have regular gas.
Our communication with Mason was clear, prompt, and booking with him went perfectly. Even before she arrived, he was helping Nichole with suggestions for her trip.
Once Nichole was on the island, Mason was great help. He has written a helpful guide to the island (that Nichole should have read sooner!). READ IT on your first night there!
He was friendly, accommodating, his apartment was clean and comfortable. And according to Nichole--we are all coming to Puerto Rico very soon. She loved her first visit to the island--and staying at Mason's was the perfect plan. Thanks Mason!
Mason rules! The nicest dude in Vieques. His beach and good recommendations are spot on. Fridge was well stocked with beverages and house was in beautiful shape upon arrival. We will be back, Mason!
This was my first experience with airbnb and it will be very hard to top. My boyfriend and I made last minute vacation plans and settled on Mason’s apartment after reading the rave reviews online from fellow travelers. We couldn’t have been happier with our decision. First of all there is nothing more refreshing after a long day of traveling than having a cold drink waiting for you at your destination. These little details are what make Mason such a great host. Upon arrival we found a very clean and comfortable apartment with plenty of room for the two of us. Mason has taken the time to write up a very helpful guide to Isabell II and Vieques listing beaches, restaurants and detailed guides of the neighborhood, neighbors and do’s/don’ts. Since the trip was fairly last minute Mason was very helpful in suggesting eats and activities that we didn’t exactly plan out. The apartment is perfect for those who want to cook their own meals and comes with the essentials you need for a good day on the beach. I can’t say enough about how nice the apartment and host were. This was by far the highlight of our trip. I look forward to returning to such a beautiful island and would certainly stay here again.
Mason was a wonderful host. He was very accommodating, had a beautiful place, and provided us with lots of information and recommendations on the area. His apartment was lovely. The perfect size. Vieques is stunning! We both really enjoyed our stay, and hope to someday return. Next time for longer. Thanks Mason! We had a great time!
This is hands down the best host/place that you will find on the island of Vieques! Mason was an absolutely amazing host. He thought of everything - guidebooks, maps, toiletries, towels, sunscreen, and even a full fridge of drinks! He really went way above and beyond what was necessary for us to have a great stay. We had a chance to hang out with him - super friendly and interesting guy! My wife and I signed up for a bio bay tour with a friend of Mason's. We didn't have a phone on our trip and Mason's friend had a family emergency and had to cancel the tour. There was no way for Mason to phone us this news, but he literally biked across the entire island, found us, and delivered the news! We couldn't believe it.
The apartment is very clean and has recently been entirely remodeled. The bed is super comfortable and all the furniture is great. There is also an amazing restaurant called Coqui Fire a few blocks away which provides some of the best food we found in all of Puerto Rico. You definitely won't be disappointed with this place!
We had a great time in Vieques & Isabell II. We stayed in Casa Bicicleta and Mason was a great host. He answered all our questions about anything and everything Vieques, provided suggestions and even picked us up from the beach one late afternoon before we had our rental car. He seemed to know and respect all his neighbors which we appreciated. The studio apt is simple and comfortable. And met all our needs. We were able to cook when we wanted or walk to nearby cafés & restaurants. Because it was a back unit on the 1st floor, the apt stayed very cool all day despite the hot weather. We would definitely recommend Mason's place to friends. Also during our stay, Mason was very hard at work renovating the penthouse unit which has great views of the Fort, the ocean and the sunrise. As always with Vieques, we can't wait to go back again.
We really enjoyed our stay in Vieques in Mason’s studio. The studio is really nice, simple, clean and within walking distance to most places in town. The host (Mason) was extraordinary, he helped us secure a car to explore the island and also when we didn’t have a car offered to pick us up in case we got stranded somewhere in the island. Overall a great place to stay in Vieques.
Our stay in Vieques was great. Mason’s unit’s location was an easy walk into town and to the ferry, and we got by on the island without a car (with rented bikes and públicos). It’s a particularly good location as a home base, since restaurants and stores are nearby. The unit itself was very pleasant -- light, clean, and airy, and in a homey, lively neighborhood of locals. Mason and others are doing work on another unit above ours, which could be a source of noise, but it wasn’t a problem as we were out during the day (you may want to check in about planned work if you plan to stick around the house). Mason was very helpful in receiving us, giving pointers about the island, having materials for guests (guides, drinks, snacks).
Mason and his place were both great. It was exactly what my girlfriend and I were looking for. The apartment was clean and comfortable. Mason was a perfect host, accessible when we wanted recommendations and had questions, but otherwise let us have our own experience.
Can't wait to go back.
Had a great time in Vieques again, and Mason's place was the perfect spot for us! He was able to meet us by the ferry and it was a short walk up to his place. From there its a 5 min walk to the panaderia, the small grocery, and Coqui Fire, a great newer restaurant Mason told us about. Try Taverna too for dinner..
The apt has everything you need to eat in or go out; we did both in equal measure. And making coffee in the percolator was great too. The place was neat, clean, and had a great nighttime breeze. Great little patio with views of the fort and the ocean too.
Mason was a great host -- easy to deal with and if you need/want anything he'll try to oblige you.
Just fyi: We rented a scooter to get around, which we enjoyed more than the jeep we rented last time. Just watch out for horses!
Mason was great! Couldn't have asked for someone better. I highly recommend this tenant.
Mason spent a month with us and what a pleasure it was having him. He of course took to Cape Town like a duck to water and being the outdoor type he swam, walked, jogged and cycled all over Cape Town.
Quiet, beautiful manners and interested in everything around him, Mason quickly became part of the family and as he mentioned in his review, loved afternoon tea.
The month went far too quickly and we sincerely hope that you will come back to Cape Town and pop in for a cup of tea or stay with us again. Neil & Odette
It was a pleasure having you.
Mason was a very clean and respectful guest and is welcome back at anytime.
