We have just recently come back from a wonderful 2 week trip in Hawaii and while there were many highlights on the trip and great places that we stayed, this was not one of them. We were extremely disappointed a felt taken advantage of. We booked a few places in Hawaii on Airbnb, this was the only one we were not happy with.
When we booked this place (about 5 months ago) we were very excited about it. While we were aware it was nothing fancy, we were also very mislead. One of the main reasons we selected this was the picture on this page of the Lanai - this is a false picture. It is not a beautiful tiled lanai with a great little table and chairs, but an old standard lanai with camping chairs and no table. The view is still nice, but it was not very inviting.
A huge deal breaker for me was the bathroom. When we first booked this there was no mention of it being outside of the suite, and being shared. I'm not looking for anything fancy, but when I'm on vacation I want a bathroom that is attached, and private. Using it meant going downstairs, though a garage, and hoping that it was free. There is also nowhere to leave your things, so you have to bring everything down with you when you are washing up in the morning/night.
The privacy issue continued when we learned that the key was to remain under the front door mat during our stay. We didn't go along with that, as we did not feel secure leaving our things behind. Our front door was also constantly used by the hosts into their own suite and by the property caretaker, so even when the door was locked we knew that people were coming in.
The room itself was okay, but it is just a huge yoga studio with a curtain across the last 12 feet to call it a bedroom. The bed was comfortable but other than that you have a couple of camping chairs and that is it. No couches or lounge chairs to relax in if you want to take it easy and read a book.
The picture of the outdoor kitchen when we booked it showed a basic but nice and modern kitchen with a grill and large dining set. That has since been removed but that did not help when we had already booked. The kitchen is very rustic with just a sink, fridge (we were given half a shelf) and a double hotplate. The dining table is fine but right in front of the sliding doors to where the hosts downstairs live, so not private at all. You are not allowed to bring food into the suite at all (also not mentioned beforehand).
They also tell you not not mention airbnb to any neighbors, so you have to lie. Very unprofessional. Had we known these things, we never would have booked it.
This place is on Hana Hiway close to Twin Falls trailhead; be aware of location, I didn't quite realize where it was when made reservation, it is past Paia, and if you are heading on out the Hana hiway, that is fine, if you are heading the other way, getting through Paia can be painful depending on time of day. You have the entire upstairs "yoga" studio to yourself. There is an area separated from rest of room with ceiling to floor curtains that includes a king bed. Area was comfortable for sleeping. No place to really sit down other than floor, or bed. There is no internet. The bathroom is shared as is shower;, the shower is an outdoor shower. There was plenty of warm water. The kitchen is also outdoors, and very basic. Recommend eating out, maybe only store some breakfast foods in their refrigerator. It is not all that private, but Adrian and Lola (Christina) are very discreet hosts, and as involved as you ask them to be. It was fine for a place to lay our heads in the evening.
Exceptional experience. So glad I stayed here. Much thanks to Christina for allowing me to borrow the serenity for a day. Best to you.
If it is a room at the Hyatt skip this stop. BUT if you want a true Haiku experience this is the place ! Luxury is a perspective. As i melted into the experience of the yoga studio the first thing I had to do was to swirl and dervish in celebration of the beuty of the view, space and wood rafters. A great surprise was the Cique de Soille type scarf swing hung high for ultimate swinging space. If my senses were not totally on TURBO at this point, I was taken over the edge with the massage ....vibrating in distinct frequencies on each chakra while recieving a utterly complete and blissful massage with headphones-Natural music inclusive of whale "songs" could not have been more effective in putting this high strung Southern Californian into a Maui state of mind. Thank you Adrian and Christina . Bill was a pleasure to meet as well .
We had an invite to a locail gathering which was a bellydancing extravaganza with over the top catered Indian food! I could not have been more delighted
Christina and Adrian are lovely souls and hosts. They were super-helpful in connecting us to essential and unique resources in the area that supported our film project while we were there. They are also talented practitioners in unique healing arts. The yoga studio is a beautiful and special place to stay.
My boyfriend and I had a comfortable and peaceful time at this place. It is conveniently located close to the beginning of the road to Hana, and has an outdoor kitchen that we put to good use. Our hosts were really nice and welcoming, with great suggestions for things to do and places to eat in the area. Our only gripe was the bed being too firm for our liking. One should definitely follow the hosts' directions to find the place (we ended up taking the (website hidden) maps' suggested route which took us to an unpaved-scary-bumpy road). We would definitely recommend!
Had a lovely stay with Christina and Adrian. Their place is comfortable and the space feels great! The yoga studio is a bonus...with fantastic views from the deck by day and by night! Christina and Adrian are wonderful souls...helpful with places to visit and tips for enjoying beautiful Maui. The outdoor kitchen has everything you need to prepare your own food if you choose. Personally, I loved the outdoor shower...and there was plenty of hot warter. Their location was perfect for the things we wanted to do on the island. Adrian does massage and sound healing...would recommend both...it was a fantastic experience. Mahalo Christina and Adrian for a lovely Christmas in Maui!
Very relaxing property! Great views. Great vibe. The hosts are very nice people. Great massage from Adrian the host as well. We love the Paia/Haiku area so this was a great location for us.
The hosts are very sincere, welcoming and helpful individuals. Be prepared for a rustic experience when booking these accommodations and you will have a great time during your stay. The listing discloses the outdoor shower, outdoor kitchen, and bugs outside, so take note and be prepared.
Also, take into account that there are no chests, closets, or hangers in the sleeping area to store clothes. The sleeping area is on the second floor, but the bathroom is on the first floor and is only accessible to you through the garage. You will notice spider webs and the spiders who spin them all over the outside of the structure.
Although there is no central air conditioning, there are window shades and a 10" fan in the sleeping area, to reduce the heat from daylight. However, there are no window shades outside the sleeping area on the second floor to prevent the heat of the greenhouse effect. Outdoor temperatures do cool off at night to establish a comfortable night time temperature indoors.
Christina was a fantastic guest. Very considerate and extremely nice. She would be a welcome guest anytime.
Christina & I met via (website hidden) while she was in Maui. She 'surfed' my couch & I will be surfing hers in March! She was an instant friend & one of the greatest people I currently know. Radiant smiles, warm loving energy, a kind heart & an adventurous soul. I've seen pictures of her place in San Francisco & it looks cozy indeed! I would recommend Christina as an AirBnB host!
Christina and I met in Accounting class at the University of Hawaii back in Fall 2001. She sat next to me in the front row and we became instant study buddies! Although we lost touch after graduation, I was very happy to learn that she moved to San Francisco shortly after me. Christina is a passionate, fun, free-spirited person with an amazing glowing energy! She is always smiling and has a very positive outlook in life. I wholeheartedly recommend Christina to other Airbnb members and strongly believe she's an asset to the Airbnb travel community.
