I love living in East London, and have done so since the late 70s, when I came here from Holland. I love the multicultural aspect and specifically in East London the amazing creativity that is here. I feel very much at home. I love design and set up an organisation called Hidden Art that promotes and supports designers /makers. Initially only in London but later on all over the UK. Still a large percentage of designers/makers are based in East London. We have also gone to the Milan Furniture Fair once a year. In 2014 Hidden Art is 25.
In the 90s East London was a rough no go area, but organisations like Hidden Art have contributed to change this over the years. Now it is the coolest area in London. "(website hidden)" just recently opened a campus in the area, and in addition to the design cluster there is now also a strong digital cluster - young people who are extremely creative with digital technology. I am very interested in the design and digital clusters working together.
I spent many years facilitating exchanges between creative designers and crafts people which included countries like Peru, Mexico and Cuba.
I often travel by bike, a trusty Dutch bike, all over London and to work.
I love cooking, travelling, local history and photography. When I travel I enjoy staying with local people as it gives you more of an insight in the place.
