I'm from Austria but I live in Gran Canaria/Spain. I have a nice wooden sailboat in Puerto Rico/Spain.
My husband and i had a great stay on Herberts sailboat. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed sitting out on the sunny deck with a glass of wine and watch the other tourists enviously walk by:). Puerto de dan mogan is great if you want to relax and soak up the sun for a few days and Herberts sailboat made it perfect: we cooked a meal one night on hus little one burner stove and ate at restaurangs just a minutes walk away from The bokat the other nights, we slept well on board and the showers were just a few min walk away (as was the beach). For 40 euros Herbert also took us out sailing one day and we enjoyed seeing the coast from the water. Herbert was helpful and kind and i would definitely recommend staying on hus boat!
Me and my girlfriend stayed at the very cozy boat for a week and it has been a very interesting experience. Everything necessary is there, the rest you can live without.
The boat is in very good condition for being old, is located in the very beautiful harbor of Puerto Mogan where you also are surrounded by many other boats and nice neighbors. Although it was cold outside in the evenings (February) it was pleasant temperature inside the boat.
Herbert, who is a very nice man, gratefully received us, gave us good advice and tips for our visit and we even got a very nice sailing one afternoon with the chance to see some dolphins in the open!
Important to notice, just bring the absolute essentials of packing in single bag or similar, we realized that our suitcase was impractical on the boat!
We can well recommend this alternative accommodation for those wishing to stay a little different but just as nice!
Sleeping on this nice wooden boat was an unforgettable experience!
The port is really silent, the waves are calm, the bed is comfortable - so one could expect undisturbed sleeping. However, even basic activities, like climbing up the board, having a pee, or cooking a pasta involve some logistics - but hey, it's a sailing boat!
Herbert was a helpful and flexible host, thanks for everything again!
Staying at Herbert's boat is unforgettable experience. A lot was said already , but still I want to leave my positive review. First of all the place: we (3 persons) stayed on a boat for few days in a wonderful bay of Puerto Rico. the boat is cozy, warm, charming. It is the best place in terms of location , cause none of the hotels could be so close to the water. I should just mention, that maybe for adults ( like my mum) it's quite challenging to get on the boat at night and to go back and forth to a toilet. And the doors to the shower were sometimes closed. But that's the problem of the port staff. And we were always able to find someone to solve this problem. Anyway, the boat is docked in Puerto Mogan today, and the port is much better there. Secondly, hosts: Herbert and his wife Christina are amazing interesting people! We were sailing with Herbert, talking about everything: boats, sea, life, love and countries. They both were always ready to help us and give travel tips and advices. Christina recommended us few restaurants and cafés, we have visited all of them) and were absolutely happy with it! So we all felt that we have found new Austrian-Italian-Spanish friends, what I find so great! I recommend you, young adventurers, to go to Gran Canaria and overnight at romantic boat Odysseus!
Herbert’s sailboat gave us an absolutely unique experience. We never stayed on a boat before so we were a bit worried about how we could handle the small swing but we got used to it very quickly. It was a bit similar to the good old days when our mummies rocked our cradles. We had excellent sleeps, in fact. The rear of Odysseus has a cozy dining area where we enjoyed breakfasts in the sun and a great dinner last evening under the stars. Besides, Herbert is a charming character, I did enjoy our conversations.
Herberts boat was a great place to stay. It is a relatively small sailing boat in the port of Puerto Rico -mostly made out of wood - which gives it authentic character.
There is a toilet you can use on the boat (involves some valves and pumping) but outside the boat you can go into a little house by the port that has toilets, a wash basin and showers. Also there is a sink and some dishes on the boat. Supermarkets are close by.
We stayed over a weekend so we enjoyed the live music from some restaurants nearby while sipping wine on the boat with the moon and stars above us!
If you're looking for a special place to stay, the boat is definitely one.
Herbert was very kind and showed us everything on the lovely ship. We went also out for a sailing trip on one of these days. Excellent! We really enjoyed our stay and the restaurants around the harbour are a nice place to eat, although we also cooked ourselves a meal onboard on the gas fired cooking stove. The fridge resulted actually in almost frozen drinks, so that one is good as well :-) We turned it off over night and it remained really cold. Some remarks: The bed is quite short. I am 1.94m and didn't fit so well. Furthermore, the shower in the harbour is really bad. You must hand-hold it and within a minute (or two), it will become cold. So be quick and turn of the shower while washing your hair... Also no warm water for shaving available. We cooked some water in the boat and brought it to the harbour facilities...
Ottimo ospite, gentile e simpatico! Saluti da Siena :-)
