I was born in Coimbra, studied, lived and worked there almost all my life. I know all there is to know about my city. I have traveled and worked all around the world. Currently I live in Porto, Portugal.

This is a very good place to stay if you want to discover the core of the old Coimbra. The flat itself is modern, has quality furniture and is quite comfortable. It is very close to the old university, on one of those charming ancient streets so typical for Coimbra. The immediate area was very quiet, permitting proper rest once in the flat after being the entire day on the move.
I did not meet the host personally, but he sounded helpful in our email exchange and his friend made the check-in/out experience smooth and painless.
I would just recommend the host to keep a supply of clean sheets in reserve, even when he is away. It will help :-)
Rafael's flat is in a great location, only 5 minutes from the university of Coimbra. The appartment is nice and full of light and I enjoyed very much my staying. Little details such as a table cloth, some more pots could make it even more comfortable for the guests.
Nice place near the city-centre. Very clean and easy to find. We were even picked up at the train station!
The kitchen is a little under equipped. There's one cooking and one frying pan, but the oven is working well.
We liked the city a lot and would recommend going to Conimbriga as well (the excavations of a Roman town. Note: the bus drives only 3 times a day there and 2 times a day back). The Botanic garden near the apartment is very beautiful.
As we have stayed in many apartments over the years, there are certain attributes that make a stay pleasurable of course, starting with location to center and also the good nature of the host. We very pleased with our apartment in Coimbra.
We arrived there after an international flight and a two hour drive from Lisboa. Needless to say we were very tired. Upon arrival in the city we were lost and could not find our way. Raphael met us and took us there. This started our stay in a good way. It also helped us get our sense of direction for our later travels.
Raphael was kind to bring water, beer and a few snacks to the refrigerator.
He also got a map for us which was not there previously but proved useful. The apartment was clean, modern and had a dishwasher. It is very near Coimbra University and the botanic garden two sites any visitors will want to see. We enjoyed the location which truly is 20 minutes on foot to the center. Downhill to get there and, a steep uphill back - but as we discovered that is the shape of all Portugal - so get good walking shoes.
We met both upstairs and next door neighbors who were sweet to us.
The only small improvement I might suggest to Raphael - which I am sure he will follow as soon as he reads this - is that there were few pots for cooking. A small pan would be nice and perhaps an extra skillet. Also we needed one more pillow.
We really enjoyed our stay, loved Coimbra and wish we were still there. If we ever go back I would be happy to stay in Raphael's apartment again.
