Zlatko welcomed us at the meeting point and showed us around the house, explained to us everything we needed to know (e. g. how to have a prepaid internet connection). He proved to be a very nice and helpful person. The accomodation was as described and expected. We had a great time! Thank you, Zlatko!
Zlatko was very friendly and helpful, the surprise was, that he has also brought us a bike with trailer for the kids. Thanks! The location is funny with small nice streets. The big beaches are on the other side of the city, but if you want only to go for a swim in the sea, it's cca 5-600 m (sometimes stairs).
The house was built in 1905 and some things are not so modern now... But "work in progress". I think, it would be a very nice place - if it would be ready. Now there were many incongruous objects and building tools... Becouse of the renovation some parts of the house is not like on the pictures. The rooms were shabby but correct, the kitchen is "retro" but fully used. The bathroom is nice, already renovated in vintage style with a great big shower. We saw that Zlatko also wants to build more bathrooms - its a very good idea :-)
In this "work in progress" condition the house is good, if you have something to work in Novi Vinodolski and you are looking for a cheap accomodation. Or if you are a couple of young peoples, who want to walk mornings to the beach and walk up in the evening or make excursions on the pleasant croatian crikvenican region. Evenings the roof terrace could be pleasant.
If it would be ready, it would be very good for families with children, who need to use the house sometimes during the day, but in this condition it was a bit uncomfortable for us.
Zlatko made us all feel welcome, stayed around for a while until my brother arrived. The place itself was difficult to find (the taxi driver didn't know the street) so a decent map or directions would help. The place itself is more shabby than chic, and parts of it feel more like a building site. We stayed during a heatwave and it was tough - no air conditioning, nor curtains on any windows. The place is certainly big and spacious, but the kitchen is small and basic and there is only one bathroom in the basement.
Maybe if it hadn't been so hot and comfortable, we would have enjoyed it more. The location is great and the place itself has huge potential, but potential tenants need to appreciate that it's still a 'work in progress', with new fixtures awaiting fitting and old fixtures needing replacing.
Overall, we feel that the place has great potential and, if you are clear about what to expect and are ok with that (and it's not too hot!) then the house and Novi itself can offer you a very memorable holiday experience.
Zlakto answered my messages very quickly and gave me advise how to go from the airport to the flat. The flat is simple and in the winter a bit cold. Its a good bargain for sure.
Zlatko is a very nice guy
A very nice host, answers quickly to all messages, and is very open to making the guests feel at home!
Sehr schönes, altes, großes Haus mit viel Platz. Wir haben uns wohlgefühlt, Zlatko hat sofort geantwortet, wenn wir mal Fragen hatten und war immer hilfsbereit. Gerne wieder!
Thanks to Zlatko for the hospitality, beer exchange and providing a unique place to stay at!
The house was very clean. Towels were provided, along with some hotel-style toiletries. The bedroom looked nice and was well-furnished. Really, it's a very pretty room. I liked that it locked, too. Plenty of lights. Plenty of wall sockets. The neighborhood isn't too loud, so I could sleep undisturbed. The mattress was a collection of springs, but it was clean like everything else. Zlatko seems to care a lot about optimizing the comfort/functionality of the room, so everything will probably be even better by the time the next guest visits (I hear there's now a sofa chair). The bathroom didn't have any nasty surprises. The kitchen had all the necessities. Everything worked like it should. If you want to borrow a bike you can rent Zlatko's for a low cost (payable in wine). I walked everywhere, however, as it wasn't too hard to get to the main tourist areas from the house. A bus stop is across the street and the tram is about ten minutes away.
Zlatko doesn't live in the house, but there was an older man there who does. He's clean but he has a special kind of personality. Zlatko himself is great. He's very fun to talk to and speaks English well. He helped me navigate the labyrinth of Croatian bureaucracy. He showed me some of the non-touristy parts of Zagreb, and even let me take his kayak out for a spin. He stayed in constant contact and kept dropping off books and movies like I was a refugee. He gave me plenty of advice for improving my stay and seeing the best of Croatia.
All-in-all, you'll get some great value for the price.
The house is more for the adventurous-minded than for the tidy type, but it is a fantastic temporary home, even for a larger family or company. You can get lost in the details and inspired by the objects left behind from the various decades -- at a VERY favourable price.
Zlatko is The Perfect Host, helpful, quick and accessible, and a nice guy to have a beer with.
Note that WiFi is not really a wifi, but a mobile internet simcard (pure, or with USB adapter) that you can fill up for 10kn a day (= 1.3 euro) which gives you 24 hours of high-speed internet up to 1GB -- easy and fast.
Once spending a night in the 'magic stone home' you'll most probably want to return :)
Zlatko is one of a kind - in the best sense! He's very responsive to his guests' needs and takes extra steps to ensure that you have the best experience possible during your stay. Not only that, but he's a very interesting person in his own right - many unique ideas and perspectives and always good company. At the same time, he has good "people sense," knowing when to hang out and when to give his guests' space. I've traveled quite a bit and had my share of hosts - he's one of the best.
The place itself is exactly how he advertises it - a place to retreat to after spending a day around the city. In practical terms, that's a clean and comfortable room, a clean kitchen and bathroom and a nice patio in the back with enough greenery around to calm your concrete jitters. The neighborhood itself is a quiet residential area with all the amenities that you need. Two groceries, a bakery, a pharmacy, cafes within walking distance and easy access to a bus that will get you downtown.
Make no mistake: You won't be smack in the city center. But given the transport, price, nearby amenities, and the host himself, I think that this is a wonderful bargain. Definitely include this on your list.
Zlatko was one of the best host experience I had so far. He and his gf left the apartment really clean and tidy. He gave me great recommendations for some improvements that I could make and shared tips for a better hosting service.
Zlatko and his wife visited my home in Edinburgh over the Christmas period. They were a lovely polite couple, even putting up with my kids and dog being around :)
Zlatko was easy to communicate with which made check-in very smooth also.
They were always neat and tidy and left everything in perfect order.
I'd welcome Zlatko and his wife again and would highly recommend them as guests :)
Zlatko and Sanja have been great guests! Kind, respectful and communicative.. We couldn't ask for more. Overall highly recommended!
