Newly married, middle-aged couple from New Jersey in the United States.
Stephen and Mary were very laid back, independent and exceedingly pleasant guests. They were spotless and I couldn't tell they had been in there. I was glad to see that Stephen was able to reconnect with Bermuda after all of these years. He was even able to have a visit with his old landlord in St Georges. I am sorry it was so windy they arrived, and a magnificent day on their departure! He easily got around on scooter too! It was great meeting Mary and realizing that we were on campus at the same time in New Hampshire...Me as an undergrad at Dartmouth, and Mary as a grad student at Tuck! Small world!! I believe I was actually living down near the business school too!
Stephen and his family were great guests. They left the house in immaculate condition; could barely tell they were there for 5 days. They are welcome anytime!
Expect a quiet and ungrateful guest. Mary got lost for maybe an hour on her way to my house and called several times, apparently without a maps app on a smart phone nor the ability to follow directions. Despite that initial hassle, she just worked at her office and came home late and never left the small bedroom in the basement--though, when I gave her a tour of the house she kept saying how nice it was. Her review describes the bedroom alone--which does not have a TV, that's right--but I'm not sure why she believed she had to stay in the room, which is in the basement floor, and not enjoy the second floor, the dining room, the living room, or the outdoor patio, all of which are in my photos and available to guests. She also later reviewed my place as being in a "marginally convenient" neighborhood which goes to show how misguided she is--it's in Dupont (7 minute walk from the metro, though it took her an hour to get here with several calls) and is only a block from U street (Local 16 etc.) and 2 blocks from 14th St. (St. Ex, Bar Pillar), etc. The best parts of town. She also doesn't shut your lights off when she leaves every morning and then leaves the key in the door and the door unlocked when she leaves for good.
Steve and Mary were the perfect guests. Very respectful and careful in addition to being well organized. Moreover, it is a pleasure to see how they really enjoy traveling and discovering new things, in a true friendly way. In other words, they will know you share their joy of living. I recommend them highly.
So happy to have met these nice people on their honeymoon in my houseboat! They really anjoyed it and were lovely!
