My wife and I love to stay in neighborhoods, not tourist hotel traps. We hope to spread that joy to others with Airbnb.

Ben and his family's home was more than we could ask for. The house had so much charm and class, plus plenty of space for myself and 4 other friends to stay comfortably. There was such easy access to public transit and great parts of Oakland.
Ben left such simple instructions to follow for everything we might have needed for our stay - everything felt very friendly and welcoming. Though I never had the pleasure to meet Ben, our correspondence throughout the reservation was always kind, helpful, and timely!
As someone who visits the Bay Area often (and lived there 5 years) I would highly recommend this rental and plan to request it again!
P.s the live-in kitties only added more charm and fun to the house! They are very cute and completely independent.
Ben's home was a wonderful, charming and fully equipped place to stay. Close to public transit and in the vibrant Temescal neighborhood. Also very easy and close to get around in Oakland. The whole house is beautifully decorated and very accessible. Couldn't of had a better experience. It was the perfect accommodation for a house and comfortably fit us all. The backyard and bbq is also wonderful. I would highly recommend this place. Also, Ben was very open and communicative. Great hosts!
The reservation was canceled 11 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
ZERO STARS if I could. Ben Rose is a scamming liar who took my money for 3 nights when he canceled my reservation the night of check-in. My friends and I did not even stay a single night, because while we were out, he grabbed our belongings that we had left in the apartment and changed the lock box code and wouldn't let us inside. He refused to answer any calls or provide an explanation. When we were finally allowed to collect our belongings, he refused to speak and acted like a crazy person. I saw the Jesus and half man/half animal paintings all over the walls, but didn't think much of them until this incident occurred. He lied to Airbnb and provided false documentation so he could keep the money, while my friends and I were left to sleep in our car for the next 3 nights. I've never met an individual so rude, untrustworthy and difficult to deal with. It's shocking that Airbnb even lets someone like him post listings to innocent users. These are the facts about my experience at his 1 bedroom NOPA/Panhandle apartment.
Also, there is no parking. We had to walk 3 miles to find parking. Do not book this apartment unless you are okay with being scammed and losing all your money.
Ben & Jennifer's 1914 corner NoPa apartment was full of all the charm (and architectural quirks) you'd expect from an SF flat of that age. As a former SF resident, I absolutely loved it! This apartment came with a world of natural light to brighten every moment, supremely comfortable living room seating, and two truly charming feline companions that were entertaining company. The cheerful, contemporary/industrial feel of the place absolutely upped our "hip" quotient with our two older sons; 16 & 18, they spent the night comfortably on the world's thickest, most amazing airbed. And speaking of sleeping... the memory foam topper on the queen bed made for a wonderful & deeply restful night's sleep for both my husband and myself. We'll be getttng one for ourselves, now that we know what we've been missing!
The kitchen was fully equipped in every way. We were even able to host my parents for a home-made dinner; the dining table easily seated six. As a great meal-time bonus, there's a full-sized Lucky supermarket (and a Starbucks) within an easy one-block walking distance. We didn't spend time up top, but the roof deck was easy to access and provided some amazing views. Had we stayed longer, a BBQ up top (grill provided) would have been great fun.
Ben was away during our visit which left zero room for problems. And happily, we have none to report; everything went off without a hitch! Towels were clean, the air mattress was inflated, and bed linens were freshly changed thanks to the cleaner who prepped the place in Ben's absence. Keys were easy to locate and access, and everything in the easy-to-find apartment was 100% ready for our arrival. Ben was a communicative and gracious host every step of the way, via a handful of eMail exchanges.
This place is located very centrally and is a great jumping-off point for just about anything you want to do while visiting San Francisco. Recommend this host and his cute flat!
Ben's apartment was the perfect place for our quick stay in SF... the afternoon light pouring into the main room is beautiful, and made it hard to leave again. Parking was easy - once we even had a spot right in front of the house! Communication was quick and clear, and the apartment was exactly as pictured. It came with built in entertainment too : two hilarious cats, and a bottle of wine! Thanks again Ben!
I photographed Ben & Jennifer's listing, and fell in love with their home instantly.
They have a fantastic, carefully curated collection of furniture and art, but without a grain of fussiness. It manages to be super cozy with classic Victorian columns and picture rails, but also modern—with cool Mid-Century furniture, a nice open living and dining space, and art with a sense of humor. I am always really excited to photograph places like theirs that have that great balance of comfort and beauty.
The light is great with big East- and Northern-facing windows, there's a roof deck, a super cute, bright bedroom and a spacious kitchen, kitted out with everything you'd need to cook while you're there (check out their homemade spice rack in the photos).
The location is perfect as it's slightly removed from the hustle of downtown, but it's also not remote by any stretch—it's just minutes by car to get downtown, to the Mission or even to Ocean Beach since it's near Fell, Oak, Divis—all are awesomely quick streets for getting across the city. It's great if you're into biking as well—it's right off of SF's famous "Wiggle" bike path which goes into the Mission and helps you avoid big hills all the way out to Golden Gate Park and beyond. You can easily walk to the Haight, or to Divisadero for great coffee (Mojo Bicycle Cafe!) great food (Nopa!) and shopping (Rare Device, Cookin', The Other Shop, etc.).
As hosts they are kind, communicative and eager to share their home and make your stay awesome.
