My heart is in San Francisco, but my body's currently in Los Angeles... fortunately, it's in this great neighborhood. Basically, I like making things/food/music, going on adventures and having a good laugh.

Bergen was a really nice guy, a great guide and a great host. He's pleasant to talk to and responsive to any questions we had. In my conversations with him it quickly became apparent that hes looked into the space and cares about the neighbourhood community, and sees us (the visiting Air-BNB'ers) as guests to that community, rather than annoying tourists or a chance to make a quick buck. He suggested a number of places around the neighbourhood that I'm glad we went to.
The apartment itself was nicer than his pictures would suggest. Its a huge loft with high ceilings and a very light-hearted artistic motif. As Bergen explained to me, its always a bit of an adventure finding the nearest light-switch.
The neighbourhood itself is known as little Tokyo and is very cool. The building is an old converted bakery in what used to be an industrial sector of LA. Its now gentrifying, but right now, before the Starbucks and Safeway's move in, its a very cool and cute japanese-theme'd community. Within 3 blocks there are about a dozen pubs, cafe's, and restaurants.
Such a fantastic place to stay! Bergen is a great host and super interesting guy. The loft room is very comfortable and the Old Arts District location is great. I could not recommend it more highly :)
Bergen was a GREAT host. The apartment was exactly as described if not better. The area is really interesting and fun. Bergen was never short of brilliant suggestions of things to do and see. The apartment is full of intriguing things, especially musically! We've kept in touch and are playing music together a lot, which is great fun! He's also a great cook, cocktail maker, musician, conversationalist - a virtuoso! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, a great introduction to LA all round!
Absolutely loved my weekend here! My BFF and I were going to a music festival in Chinatown and I couldn't resist when I saw Bergen's log cabin located in a great area...next to my fav bar hurrhurr. I live about 20-30 min away from LA and practically come every weekend but it was nice taking our time, walking, and not constantly looking for parking.
Bergen did an awesome job making our stay as comfortable as possible and his living space is just as interesting as he is. Very chill and even invited us to brunch.
Some recommendations all walking distance away:
Nickle diner - Great breakfast and vegan options
Senor Fish - fish tacos
Shojin - vegan Japanese / sushi
Honda ya - yaki tori
Haru Ulala - yaki tori
Wurstkuche - Good beer on tap and their vegan sausage is decent
Bergen was so awesome! his space is one of a kind. Truly comfortable and welcoming. Great bed PLUS a jacuzzi. The view from the roof is not to be missed, personally liked drinking my morning coffee on the little fire escape. Bergen has a million interests and is always up to something. He was an incredibly gracious host and always informed me of fun things, my one regret was not having been able to take him up on more of them. His loft is a 10
Bergen was the most amazing host. I was in town for a food event, and new to the city. He showed me around the awesome arts district, all the while sharing great stories and conversation. His loft is spectacular and cozy, and a wonderful way to feel at home in an unknown place.
Safe location, easy to get to via car, bike or feet.
By far the best air b n b place to stay in downtown LA. Could not rave more about how cool, electric, creative and unique it was. The host is a fucking legend! We love him. If you want to experience an area that is up and coming go Arts District it rocks! Bergen is the coolest guy and we hung out quite a bit and had so much fun! Will be back definitely couldn't stay anywhere else really!
My boyfriend and I had a great experience staying at Bergen's place! We did not get a chance to meet him since he was out of town, but he made sure everything was taken care of and that we were let in upon arrival. Would loved to have met him though, seemed like a very interesting guy! Thanks so much Bergen!
Bergen's place is the most unique and incredible place i've ever stayed at. The place is so cozy and inviting, not to mention the soft bed and awesome jacuzzi. The apartment is located in a safe and convenient area which makes traveling easy. The rooftop was astonishing, with a stunning view, you could see the fireworks from the LA Dodgers game. Bergen is such a great host/musician, he lent us his bikes to travel around, and suggested many places to visit in LA. I would definitely stay here again.
Staying with Bergen was absolutely wonderful. The apartment is so fun, welcoming, and comfortable. It is located in a great spot downtown, an easy walk from cafes, bars, restaurants and grocery stores. Bergen is incredibly kind, and extremely hospitable (and SUPER FUN!).
If I was looking for a place to stay again, this would absolutely be my first choice.
A true gem!!!
They left my place so clean! Very respectful:) Thank you!
Bergen was a really warm mellow guy, and was great to host. The first night that he stayed over, he offered us some wine and we stood out on the front porch and talked for a while. It was a nice gesture, and a chance to get to know him better. He only stayed for a weekend so it was a quick visit, but we would definitly open up our home to him again!
Bergen is super cool guy! really fun and creative. He compose a song for a friend for a friend of him in just a few days! We really enjoy having him at home and I hope that if we meet each other next time would like to share another beer and more travel stories. For sure I recommend Bergen as a guest, and I imagine that as a host is a really nice guy and helpful. If he come back to Buenos Aires, I would host him again without any doubt!
Muy simpaticos! Y predispuestos!
very nice guy, and funny.
Bergen has an interesting and nice apartment in Downtown Los Angeles. Bergen has excellent humor and it will be a pleasure for anyone meeting him.
A better host you will be hard pressed to find. The man is of the renaissance. A musical talent. Online wiz. Adventure seeker. A social justice activist. In our decade odd of knowing each other we have bonded over our ill-fated travels in the former Soviet Union. We have even shared an airbnb off Bourbon Street. And according to our host, we were "lovely" guests.
I had a great time staying with Bergen in his amazing loft. His hosting skills are top notch with beers on the roof overlooking downtown LA and a motorcycle tour of the city. The apartment has a kind of relaxed, creative energy you don't often find in that city. And hey, he may even play you a song on his banjo if you're lucky.
Bergen is a one-of-a-kind. The kind of amazing human being you hope to always have in your circle of friends. We met in 2008 in San Francisco with a mutual love for motorcycles, travel, social/environmental stewardship, and ridiculous adventures. Berg introduced me to the world's greatest bar in a tiny lost town after a day of riding. He's the kind of host who will show you the hidden gems of a city, and introduce you to musicians, artists and warriors. If you're staying with Bergen there's little chance you'll get swallowed up in cheap tourism, and near certainty you'll return home with a skip in your step.
I and Bergen have known each other for a few years now. We met through mutual friends in San Francisco. Without hesitation I recommend Bergen as either a host or a guest in the AirBnB community. Bergen has an outgoing, witty, and down-to-earth personality that makes people feel welcomed and at ease. And if there is an opportunity to hang out, good times always seem to be in Bergen's vicinity. He is also a man of the world who genuinely appreciates cultural diversity, the essential ingredient of a great AirBnB community member.
Bergen and I have been friends for nearly 20 years. He is a smart, personable, straight shooter, and I trust him implicitly. You will find him reasonable, a problem solver and very easy going. I am certain that he will be an excellent host.
Bergen is a rare gem. An truly enjoyable person, really easy to talk with, a great cook, musician, motorcycle traveler and always up for adventure. Not to mention he lives in one of the coolest artist lofts i've seen in LA. He also has a conscience and friends on every continent. :)
