Hey, I'm Elizabeth!
Interlachen, Florida, United States · Member since June 2012

Deeply appreciate the work, spirituality, and essence of Leonard Cohen. His music and humility are world class in equal measure. Have followed his music since 1970. My purpose in coming to Dublin is to participate in a large gathering of Leonard Cohen fans.

Am politically active and a very strong supporter of President Barack Obama... campaigned heavily for him in 2008, as well as 2012. Hoping to do the same for Hillary Clinton in 2016... and, if not her, Elizabeth Warren. Am an avid recycler [deeply concerned about the survival of nature, the environment, and animals]. Listen to only NPR [National Public Radio] and its various affiliates, don't watch television, but when did, my preference was documentaries and nature programs on PBS. Love films, but am not an aficionado; my preferences are foreign, art, and indie films.

Love learning about and experiencing other cultures in authentic ways. Though am interested in some known attractions, value just as deeply what it is to live day to day in another country... via the homes of other people... and the out-of-the-way places that make life real. Was delighted to learn of this site and the many varied opportunities for getting to know and experience people in the ways that matter most to me.

Born and raised in Michigan [U.S.]; lived in the Florida Keys for seven years [miss it]; and now live in north-central Florida, between Gainesville and St. Augustine.

Always genuinely try to speak the native languages of others [memorizing phrases phonetically, if need be]; unfortunately, am not adept at any of them, but my efforts and sincerity are clear. Open and affirming of others, and supportive of individual rights. If people are to remember anything about me when I go, I would like it to be "she cared."

Love cats and animals, in general. Growing up, traveled somewhat extensively with my parents. They were both school teachers and had summers off. "Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken" is an Oscar Wilde quote with which I resonate. My education level is a bachelors degree and my work experience has centered around social work, primarily with abused and neglected children, as well as substance abuse programs and corrections.

My belief is that kindness and love must prevail. As a guest in your home, you will find me to be rather quiet and very respectful; as well as helpful, if you allow me the opportunity. I'll leave my living area as I found it and will be respectful of you and your property while I'm there. Am independent, yet welcome interaction and company, love to listen, and am a great listener. Drink seldom and very little when I do, so you will never have to concern yourself with how I'll be coming into your home. I'm a non-smoker, though smoked at one time, so am tolerant of others smoking, even if I don't really care to be around second-hand smoke. My preferences with food are vegetarian and organic, but am not rigid. Love to experience new dishes.

In general, new, different, and undiscovered things attract and inspire me. My parents instilled in me my love of travel and learning about people in 'real' ways and learning of other cultures through direct experience.

The greatest emotional loss of my life was losing my Mom in July of 2011. May everyone respect and love their mother, as well as their father, while they still have them... and let them know as deeply as possible how much they are valued. [Now that I've said that, you won't need to worry about my repeating it later.]

I'm looking forward to meeting whoever will be welcoming me into their home, and am grateful to you for the opportunity.
