I've been living in Wilkes-Barre PA (where I grew up) for a couple years now, working for the architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson after completing my MS in Interior Design at Pratt Institute.

This was my first Airbnb experience and I was hesitant for quite a while before finally booking somewhere. The experience with Collyn and her place has assured me and inspired me to not only keep using Airbnb for future trips but also to just take more trips! Her apartment was a sanctuary. When we first walked in, there were humidifiers going and classical music playing. It was a very cold night and her apartment was nice and warm. Her peaceful personality is diffused over every inch of the place. The bed (especially the linens) were absolutely heavenly. The shampoo, conditioner and face wash were some of my own favorites. The towels were thick and fluffy and if hung on the towel rack (which is right above a heater) they are warm too! There were little details I noticed over the course of the weekend that just made me love the apartment (and Collyn) more and more. We walked to dinner (Katana--great place run by great people!) there and back during some pretty heavy snowfall (beautiful but cold). It was wonderful coming back to a still plenty warm and cozy apartment. Every time we left, I found myself looking forward to returning to the apartment just because of how serene it was. I didn't know anything about the city beforehand because Wilkes-Barre just happens to be in the middle of where I live and where my boyfriend is stationed so the city itself wasn't my top concern. I was pleasantly surprised, actually downright shocked, at how cool it was. It had so much character--lots of history and beautiful architecture. I'm a history lover so naturally I did a little research on some of the houses surrounding Collyn's while I was there--super interesting (if you're into that kind of thing). There are multiple universities in the area so it had a young vibe but not out of control. It felt very safe. Checking in and out was a breeze thanks to Collyn's easygoing, simple and clear instructions. I could go on forever. Collyn and her apartment are just lovely. For all future trips to meet half-way, this will be the place I go to without hesitation. I may even take a little solo getaway so to enjoy some alone time in this place!
Beautiful apartment and excellent host. Collyn was very prompt in answering all my questions. I would definitely stay here again.
The space was just as pictured and was very quaint. Check in and check out were a breeze. Clear instructions and neighborhood recommendations were left for us and came in handy. The kitchen is very small but was definitely sufficient and tucks away nicely behind two doors. The back and front stairways will give you a run for your money if not in shape. The 38 winding steps from the front door to apartment door are a mini workout. The bedroom is cozy and plenty of pillows and blanket were available. The bed is very soft, so if your used to a firm mattress this is not the bed for you. The apartment is super close to the main street and there was a YMCA three buildings down that I used for a quick workout. The town was really quiet and we noticed a lot of shut down businesses. We weren't sure if the sleepy, abandoned vibe was because of the cold season or if that is how is usually is. I think the area probably shines best in the warmer months. Thai Thai ended up being the best place we got a meal from. The food was flavorful but light.
Wasn't able to stay there. Had to leave town early due to snowstorm
Collyn, My husband and I loved your apartment. It was just as your description stated. It was cozy and quiet and beautifully decorated. We had a comfy nights sleep -it was like being home. We took one of your resturant suggestions and enjoyed an awesome dinner at Katana. We especially liked the close proximity to city center. . . We parked our car on arrival and walked around. The neighborhood was safe and quiet. We would love to visit Wilkes Barre in the spring to bike on the river. Thank you for making our first Airbnb experience memorable.
Collyn's apartment was fantastic! Great location, great space, and most important a great hostess! All communication was handled through text and email and she was able to accommodate us with just a few days notice. It was clear that Collyn put a lot of thought into decorating this space in order to make her guests feel comfortable. I can't wait to stay there again in the future!
If you happen to be in Wilkes-Barre, Collyn's place is an excellent choice. The details in other reviews about quiet streets, clean place, Collyn's attentiveness are all correct. We also took our dog to walk along the river nearby and he thoroughly loved it. Bonus were Collyn's architecture books if you're into reading those things.
Collyn's place was awesome! It felt just like home, super quiet and calm. We really enjoyed our stay there. The bed was super comfortable and I loved the lavender mist machine that was on when we walked in. Perfect little spot to relax for vacation.
Elegant and welcoming, Collyn's apartment is a comfortable home away from home! She was such a gracious host. Franklin Street is full of gorgeous old architecture, and a evening walk is a must.
This place was great and just really comfortable and quaint. Collyn did a great job preparing it and it was impeccably clean. She was super flexible about check-in time and check-out times and did a great job with communicating with us.
The instructions are very clear and concise and the place is really wonderful. It is very European so no TV. Close to a lot of bars and restaurants with nice covered parking.
I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to visit the area. Additionally, I would stay here again if I had the opportunity.
