Hi, Nice to meet you! We are Sanghyun and Jo-Anna.
American/Korean couple living near downtown Seoul.
Our hobbies are:
Very nice stay with Sanghyun (Jo-Anna was away), he was happy to have dinner with us (he cooked!) and chat about Korea and his travels to other countries. We drank some of his homebrewed beer, it was delicious. Very spacious house for Korea, comfortable bed, great pillows, full size towels, very good location close to the metro station. Thanks very much for having us!
Sanghyun was very accommodating and friendly. Unfortunately, we weren't able to see him much as he was quite busy. Regardless, the location was pretty convenient to the metro, and we enjoyed the traditional style of the house.
Sanghyun is a very nice guy, we had lots of fun talking with him. The house is also nice, traditional Korean house. It was a pleasure staying with Sanghyun. Unfortunately Jo-Anna was abroad when we stayed so we didn't meet her.
Sanghyun is an amazing host! He went out of his way to help us figure out sightseeing and places to eat in Seoul. He also cooked amazing food and brewed amazing beer that were beyond yummy! We loved the location since it was close to the subway line and not far from the Cheonggyecheon stream.
Thanks for making the deliberate effort to help make our stay comfortable even though both of you were going to head off to another country during the period of our stay! The beer was good (and it was a pity we couldn't learn the making process from you). The location of the place was conveniently located among the popular places for tourist too (we mainly traveled in and out via the train and didn't have to take long to get home). A place I would recommend to stay in for an different and interesting experience!
The House is traditional, tidy and well-located, close to the subway station. Sanghyun and Jo-Anna are very nice and we have a happy chat with their homemade apple beer, very fruity! They love to share about their wedding, work and life. Such a wonderful time and experience in Korea! Many thanks!
I had an absolutely amazing time with Sanghyun and Jo-Anna in Seoul. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, I was overawed by how friendly, helpful and, above all, generous they were in their hospitality. From sharing meals with me to lending me a portable Wifi device and T-money card to allowing me to join a rice wine making class to taking me on an unforgettable night out in Seoul, they did everything to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. Their traditional Korean home is stunning and perfectly situated close to the Metro for exploring what is a fascinating city. I thoroughly recommend staying with Sanghyun and Jo-Anna. Thank you both for helping to make my trip to Seoul one of the best I've ever had.
Staying with Jo-Anna and Sanghyun was just lovely - the traditional hanok house is located close to the metro, and there are plenty of sights around. We had the privilege to taste their home-brew - korean makkoli, and a very good american IPA! It was great to get an insight into life in Seoul, thanks a lot!
A pleasant stay and we really like staying at old house in Korea, but we missed the brewing workshop on weekends. Nice host and Jo-Anna is really helpful and thanks for the dinner offer, too bad we can't join. Hope to see you guys soon.
Sanghyun is a great, flexible and helpful host who happens to also be very generous with his excellent microbrew! The location is quiet, spacious and yet close to all of the sights. I would not hesitate to recommend this spot for anyone travelling in Seoul.
It was a pleasure to host Sanghyun & Jo-Anna at my place for a few days- Though I did not meet them, they were very clear about their travel plans and left the place in great (website hidden)-Anna was great at checking in with me about the area and seemed very friendly ~ They are welcome any time.
Sanghyun and I have something common from the beginning. He lets people stay at 100 year old house through Airbnb. So do I. When I recieved his request, I was so exited. Then we met as if this is our destiny. First I asked him to come to my other place "Nostalji" (which is near Kyoto station) to leave his luggages. At his first sight he really liked "Nostalji". Though he booked for "Chian" two nights, I said to him, " Tonight you'll stay at Chian and tomorrow night you can stay at "Nostalji". He was so happy with my suggestion. That night my friend gave us a ride to "Chian-100 year old house". and we were chating about our old houses, Airbnb, our life and so on until 1:00AM over some beer and sake. It was a relaxing, peaceful, wonderful and precious night. Before sleeping he asked me "Can I also stay here(Chian) tomorrow night?" I was surprised and off course I said, "Yes".
At the second night I organised BBQ party with my local friends. Every body enjoyed so much and became friends. Sanghyun, when we go to Korea someday, we are sure to stay at your 100 year old house. And you are always welcome to "Nostalji" and "Chian". This place is your second house.
Sanghyun was here for such a short time I thought we weren't going to have a chance to chat. Fast forward to midnight and we were chatting away sharing stories over a beer. He's a great house guest, considerate and clean. Hope to see you back soon Sanghyun or maybe I'll visit him in Korea :)
We loved having Jo Anna and her friend stay with us. They were great guests! Their curiousity and enthusiasm about the local culture and customs was fun to (website hidden) Anna is world traveled and seems at home in whatever circumstance. The two of them contributed to a great chemistry in between all the guests at the B&B - sharing their experiences and view points. They were an essential part of a beautiful evening of multicultural exchanges. I would welcome them back again whenever they would like to come, and would feel lucky to host them again. I would also recommend Jo Anna or her friend highly to any other hosts where they might want to stay.
I've known Sanghyun since Dec 2011, when me & my sister stayed at his place for 2 weeks. I received great hospitality from him & got to know more of the korean culture through his explanation. I went back to Seoul this year and met up with him & Jo-Anna again, and got a chance to taste the makgeolli that Sanghyun brewed himself. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and certainly people you would like to meet in Seoul for a wild Korea experience. :)
Sanghyun and Jo-Anna have a really unique and beautiful house in Seoul. There's is the first that I've seen of a traditional style Korean house and it is very quaint, clean and comfortable. I love the middle courtyard too. It's a wonderful place to just relax.
As for these two hosts, they are awesome people. They are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of what to do and see in Seoul. And they are just silly and fun to be around. Sanghyun makes great home brews and Jo-Anna made an amazing carrot cake. Their home is a great location for seeing all the sites in Seoul so I would highly recommend staying there!
I stayed with Jo-Anna and Sanghyun at their previous place in early 2012. Friendly and helpful hosts, great fun to chat with and a life saver. Sanghyun generously offered me a lift to the train station as it was pouring. My small piece of luggage was not so 'small' in weight and I only just made it to the departure gate minutes before they closed! Not forgetting their awesome kimchi pancake which still stands out in my mind food-wise from my 2 week trip! As a first time solo traveller, staying with them was a very positive experience. Highly recommended!
I've never stayed with Jo-anna and Sanghyun before but they're good people and are really into exploring all that Seoul and Korea have to offer. If I were visiting from out of town I think they'd be great hosts and can provide tons of information about what to do and how to get around!
Sanghyun is a friendly and funny person who is more than willing to go the extra mile to assist you when you need help. He provides useful information about the city and he drew maps for us. Sanghyun is multilingual, so there's no worries about miscommunications. He is also a great cook, his kimchi stew and kimchi pancake is probably the best in town~! His house is near Jungang Market, E-Mart and within a walking distance to Dongdaemun. I'll highly recommend staying with Sanghyun if you want a unique Korea experience!
I highly recommend staying with Jo-Anna and Sanghyun. They are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about Seoul. They speak both English and Korean; so there will not be any room for miscommunication. They can definitely guide you to a great experience in the beautiful city of Seoul.
These guys are friendly and willing to bend over backwards to ensure you're comfortable and having a good time. Their place is within walking distance of the Seoul Folk Flea Market (an easy place to spend a day by itself!), and is a surprisingly nice hanok (traditional Korean house) - something that's rare to find in the heart of Seoul.
Sanghyun and Jo-Anna are very friendly and knowledgeable people. Both speak Korean and know lots about Korea and Seoul. A perfect place to stay if you want a real Korean home experience as well as awesome people to give you lots of information about the city!
I met Jo-Anna through work and can vouch for her being a sweet and lovely person. I know for a fact she is very familiar with Seoul and Korean culture/language and so on, so I am sure she would be a great person to help her guests get around what can be a confusing city! I am sure staying with her would be a definite pleasure for any visitor to Korea :)
