this was our first time to try airbnb and an overall positive experience.
Clare was great as host, with fast and friendly communication. She also was flexible and helpful to allow us to leave the bedding unwashed since we had to depart at 6am.
the apartment is quite spacious and the location was great and fit the description. The only discrepancy we found was that it was described to be a quiet app when we felt that it was rather loud in the bed room with clear traffic noise. Place was nice and clean when we got in and stuff like toilet paper etc was stocked. WiFi was working great. The bed was comfy but might be a bit narrow if you're not a couple. There was however also a couch.
The place was nice, but cold. My girlfriend and I were here in late October, there was no heating control visible through out the apartment. Clare was never there, we only exchanged texts. The wifi would cut out intermittently between our three days stay, we also had to buy toilet paper because there was less than half a roll left. The bath matt had not been washed but thankfully there was a spare. Underneath the sheets of the bed is a pretty large and gross yellow spot. The cleaning fee plus having to do you're own laundry is not worth it but it's only $2 so I don't care but it also means you need to use 2 hour out of your last day of vaca for....laundry.
Now that I got all the STUFF out of the way... The place was not a bad spot, very spacious, close to the subway and an awesome part of Williamsburg, if you're a single guy or gal and just need a place to crash while you're in NY, this spot will do, but I wouldn't really care to stay here again.
Clare was a wonderful host! Her flat was just perfect for my stay. Conveniently located, it is close to the Williamsburg Bridge, JMZ, G & L trains and all that Williamsburg has to offer. It really became my home away from home!
The place was very clean, with polished floorboards, gorgeous mid-century furniture and a nice selection of books to flick through. The bathroom and kitchen are great too and the laundry in the basement came in handy. By NYC standards I found the apartment to be quite spacious for one person and would be more than comfortable if there are two of you.
The double bed was snug and comfy, but some may find it a little on the small side. It was just fine for me!
The neighbourhood is awesome too. There is no shortage of great bars and restaurants to try within short walking distance, not to mention all the cute shops and markets to explore.
Clare was very fast at getting back to me. She was also patient and understanding when I had a few issues whilst I was trying to book.
To sum it up, this place is a little gem. I would definitely stay again and I hope I get the chance to go back very soon!
I would never stay in this apartment again!!!
the bedding was dirty (not cleaned!!). there was a lot of hair all over in the bathroom. the kitchen stove was dirty. It felt like the apartment hadnt been cleaned for a long while!
Before we arrived we got instructions about how we as guest are supposed to clean the apartment. In this house manuel it was for example written "..launder bedding and towels before you check out - please make the bed - please leave the apt in the state that you found it when you checked in and the apt is ready for the following guest. laundry is in the basement...". so as a guest you are supposed to clean and pay a cleaning fee in the same time, which I found weird. The host Clare is not attending at all as you pick up and leave the key at an agreed place. So I got the feeling that Clare didnt check the apartment between guests, and rather trust the guests to clean for each other...
While we didn't get to meet Clare in person as she was vacationing the weekend we stayed at her place, from her apartment and e-mails, she seemed lovely, sweet, and interesting. The apartment was very clean with shiny hardwood floors and smelling of boutique candles. She's also got an enviable collection of monographs if you're into that sort of thing. As for the important stuff, the apartment is located right by the BQE, several restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. The JMZ. G. and the L trains are also nearby making this a sort of centrally located place. Clare's bed, while perhaps small for some people, is very clean and the sheets are soft. I would definitely stay again. While I didn't see either of them, Clare and her neighbor Jessica were friendly and accessible via phone and e-mail.
