Marc is a warm and gracious host and his palace is an absolute Alice In Wonderland dream of a place. The Napoleon room was unbelievably lovely, romantic, and comfortable.
We enjoyed our visit a lot. Cardona is a picturesque village and the house is very beautiful and special. It's not only a normal sleeping place it's a place where you breathe the History and Marc is very friendly and helpful. He also explained us everything about the house and his lifeproject. We spent 2 hours taking pictures of the house! It has been a very interesting stay.
@Marc: we cross our fingers for your lifeproject.
We are looking forward to coming back.
Marc is a great guy, a great host and good fun. If a bohemian, alternative Airbnb experience is what you want, then this is #1. Experience of a lifetime in such beautiful surroundings!
I booked this place as an overnight stop on a two-day cycling trip, so I was only here for one night and one morning.
Marc was not at the accommodation when I arrived in Cardona at 9pm, but I called him and he gave me clear and detailed instructions (in English) over the phone. He even gave me a quick guided tour during the call!
The place is fantastic. I had the whole place to myself and I spent half of the morning exploring the many curiosities within the palace. It must be emphasised that this place is a grand architectural project and is very much work-in-progress. Therefore half the rooms were incomplete and the wash facilities are basic, though fully-working. If you want a full-service hotel, go somewhere else. However, if you want a unique experience that you'll be recounting in stories for many years, then you've found your place.
The decor is a delightful combination of antique, functional and shabby-chic. The room that I chose had a large double bed, good storage, rustic design and a balcony overlooking the Cardona Castle and the Pyrenees to the distance. In the morning, I spent time relaxing on the roof terrace and making use of the well-equipped, well-used kitchen.
I did manage to meet Marc on the morning and he seemed like a really friendly, really interesting guy. Would have been great to hang out with a little more but I had to get on my bike and get to Barcelona by sunset!
Aquest allotjament, tot i les seves mancances, pot convertir-se en un lloc esplèndid. Tot i això, ara com ara, encara es queda una mica curt. Les intencions són bones, però necessita millorar.
This was my third time in the Gothic Palace, and hopefully not the last. I felt as welcomed and comfortable as always and the region is quite simply just growing on me: It is a beautiful area and there is plenty of opportunities for activities as well as good wine and food. Furthermore, the Gothic Palace is a very interesting place.
Marc was very friendly. He couldn't be there when we got into town, but he gave us very good instructions on how to find the 'apartment' and we met him the next morning.
This place is a real adventure--"14th Century Gothic Palace" is certainly no typo. It was fascinating to stay here and explore the different rooms and floors of the palace. Marc is in the process of renovating this house, which is itself fascinating to observe, and his cheerful and thorough explanation of his renovations and the history of the structure was worth the stay in itself.
This *is* a 14th century palace under renovation, so there is no A/C or wifi, but what it may lack in modern creature comforts it more than makes up for in architectural beauty and historical interest--after all, how many AirBnB rentals share a wall with a historical town church that dates from 1370? If you get a chance to visit Cardona, skip the Parador and stay here instead!
Wonderful hosts in a charming village. Well appointed, well equipped room! The town is small, with the closest supermarket being a few towns over, however, there are drinks and snacks made available for purchase at a reasonable price. The town has two restaurants in the main square which are both good value and a great small town atmosphere. If you are looking for a good place to relax at night after busy days of activity, Monells is a great place!
Gothic Palace is defitely worth a visit. This time was my second and hopefully not the last, Marc and the other people around are great company and the house is spectacular as well as the region has a let to offer, also with regards to wine and dining. Hope to see you soon :).
Marc was a great guest! Very polite ,friendly and neat. I really enjoyed meeting and hosting him- Marc will be always very welcome.
