We love having guests and sharing our space with visitors, but David stayed with us for 2 months and was more like a roommate a
guest. He came to see the apartment before deciding to room with us so he knew exactly where it was and what it looked like. We feel badly that David had a negative experience with us, but 1 out of every 20 of our guests had a negative experience with us and we think in this case it was due to his excessive expectations of us.
He told us that he worked long hours and would be away most weekends and that his girlfriend would be here for a short visit. He said that he preferred to clean his sheets, towels, and room himself when we offered to do it for him. We have a vacuum cleaner and he never asked about it. He made a mess in the bathroom every morning, left dirty dishes in the kitchen and food in his room though and apparently expected us to clean up after him, although that was not part of the deal. We had a maid come once before his stay, once during, and at the end, and he never asked if we could have her again. He spoke on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) to Europe every morning so loudly that it sounded like German robots were yelling through the computer and it woke us up every day until we asked him to lower the volume. I only once asked him to be quiet in his room and it was about this computer volume early in the morning.
Generally he was considerate about our work schedule, but he was not truthful about how long his guest would be staying with us, and was not a clean or considerate roommate. We had a leaky window in our bedroom that our landlord needed to come in to repair and granted he came unannounced, but David never asked or told us that his girlfriend would be there during the days, and it happened while I was at a meeting at work and was not able to take calls. His girlfriend was pleasant and cleaned up after him, but she also cooked food and left in the oven or the bedroom during the summer months and was home all day using the air conditioner and running up our electricity bill when we had not budgeted for that cost because of what David told us about his schedule.
David asked for and received two discounts, but then wanted an additional one for the last day when he wanted to stay long enough to prohibit us from allowing another booked guest to stay. We did not expect or ask him to leave early in the morning, we just needed time to clean up after him, and he was unsympathetic in that regard.
David is a kind, neat and respectful guest. He was working most of the time - at his internship or on his thesis - but would pop out to have conversations as well. He is extremely friendly and was sweet to us and our Dog.
