Location was great. Apartment was updated and clean. Very spacious. Could use a few more cooking utensils. Neighborhood was very safe and close to everything! Would stay here again
Great location and awesome apartment that is full of sunlight and perfect for a stay in Madrid!
Fred and Ronit were great hosts and their apartment was clean and in good condition. My wife and I stayed there with our 2 year old. The two bedrooms worked out great, even though the 2nd bedroom is setup more as an office. It was the perfect size for a portable crib that the hosts provided for us. There is also a fold out futon in the living room that could be used to sleep one or two more people if need be. The bathroom had a bathtub which also suited us well for bathing the little one. (although airbnb identifies this as a hot tub/jacuzzi, it is just a regular tub).
The apartment is on the top floor of a 5 story, mid-century walkup and does not have a lift, so the walk to the top was a bit of a hike, especially when carrying a stroller up and down. It was a good way to burn off all of that good Spanish food though. The building is set among several similar buildings on the west bank of the river. The river itself is nicely lined by paths and crossed at several places by stone bridges, some of them pedestrian only.
The apartment is not really walkable to the city center, as we thought it may be from looking at the map. This is mostly due to the grade change from the river to the top of the hill where the old part of the city is. That said, it's easy to get around by using the metro from Pr. Pio station.
We found it is about a 10-15 minute walk (on the shorter side if you're not pushing a stroller and can take the steps) to the Principe Pio metro station. Here you can take the subway as little as one stop to the Opera station and you are right in the middle of the old city. Of course you can go to any other neighborhood you like as well. If you get the unlimited tourist pass you will be well served. This station also gets you to the airport via the C-1 Renfe train, which is like a light-rail train.
It is also worth noting that, although there a couple cafe's and restaurants on the west side of the river, we did most of our local eating Paseo de Florida, the street on the east side of the river, just up a hill from the river banks. Here there are tons of cafes and restaurants that seem to cater more to the local population. There is a supermarket and a bakery as well. There is also the Principe Pio shopping mall there.
The only problem we had was with the internet. The hosts provided a SIM card with data for use both in and out of the apartment. However, our american phones were carrier locked and could not be unlocked despite various attempts.
Overall Fred and Ronit were easy to deal with and we enjoyed our stay.
Polite, easy, and left the apartment in clean condition.
Ronit is the most reliable host, friend, person and definitely the greatest compañera de viaje I know. I first met her a few years ago in Madrid. She knows the city, the people and all the comuting and landing issues this great European hot city has.
Great host! Everything was wonderfull!
