I come from a huge huge family. It's unmatched in size: over 47 living maternal aunts and uncles (the last time we counted)and all the cousins whose names and heritage I must forgive myself for sometimes forgetting.
It teaches you a few things: how to get over yourself, how to get attention when you need it, how to pick your battles, how to find all the other black sheep (you can bet they are having a really cool party as we speak).
My style of traveling:
When I was a kid, I never left the country, or went on long trips, and didn't get to meet many people from outside. All the traveling and wonderful exposure to the big bad(-ass) world only started when I was 16 and away from home, and is very much cherished.
I've traveled a fair share, but I'm no where near done! I met some fantastic people on the way, and found the conversations to be fulfilling, and the connections warm. It's taught me a few things about myself: I don't like to travel to other places or visit cool destinations - what I'm really looking for is experiences of LIVING in an alien world, finding commonality, and finding the comfort and peace that makes the lives of others.
My life motto:
I believe the secret is a balance of reckless abandon (to jump into things precisely because the "real day-to-day boring YOU" would never do it) and clear hindsight (once you're done being rash, acknowledge how silly it was to go against your better judgement or use none of it at all, and consider yourself all the wiser for having lived to tell the tale).
Things I like:
Books (and some Authors): Terry Pratchett's Discworld Series, Roald Dahl's Cinderella, Everything is Illuminated, JM Coetzee, Colette, J.R.R. Tolkien, David Eddings when I was little, The Alchemist, Pedagogy of the Oppressed,
Movies (and TV Shows): Anything that makes you go, "Hmmn!" In the Mood for Love, Avatar 3D, Fight Club, Memento, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, TiMER, Pandorum, period pieces, Casablanca, Laura, The Graduate, A Clockwork Orange, horror movies in general, City of God, Rear Window, The Dark Knight, The Matrix, Apocalypse Now, (I loved) The Departed, Dude Where's My Car, District 9, Some Like it Hot...South Park, The Boondocks, Drawn Together, True Blood, Voltron, Desperate Housewives, House, did I say South Park?--I loved the evil purple prince whose name escapes me.
