We had a fantastic stay at Hinterrhein, with much much snow!!!
The house is fully equipped, it was very easy even with a 3 years old child. We found every thing we needed for breakfast at the small shop in the village, and everything else at Splüngen, 10min far from Hinterrhein by car (nice ski/snowboard place, luge for small children).
We look forward to go back, maybe in summer!
Great place to stay in the winter, very nice skiing in Splügen. The house is comfortable, quiet, everthing you need is there. The hosts are very friendly.
Dominik and his mother were really kind and helpful.
the cabin is amazing and cosy, very well equipped and above all: the cabin's beautiful location in a tiny, yet authentic alpine village is unforgettable.
we really recommend this place to others. there are many beautiful places to see in the area as well.
Sehr gemütlich. Alles da!
I can't say anything more than what the other reviewers have said. My wife and myself were the only ones in the holiday home and despite the poor weather in Hinterrhein, we managed to absorb ourselves in appreciating the history and quietness of this tiny little town.
According to Dominik's mother, Frau Aebli, there are only about 60 pple in the town, as well as one golden retriever, two cats and a large number of sheeps, cows and chickens, which occasionally will pop by the front yard as they make their way up/down the hills to forage.
The kitchen comes with cooking utensils and spices, and it's great that you can supplement whatever you might have bought from Migros/COOP with the additionals in Frau Aebli's minimart. We got fresh eggs and tomatoes from her.
And the best part is that you don't need to drive to get there. Hinterrhein Dorf is easily accessible by a bus from Thusis going in the direction of San Bernardino Pass, and once at the stop, a short 5 minute walk up to the fountain where you'll find the holiday home.
We had a wonderful time, and can only hope to return one day, perhaps with our kids :)
We had a wonderful, comfortable stay here! Dominik's parents were amazingly welcoming and friendly, we had such a beautiful drive through the mountains to get there and we arrived into this beautiful quiet little town to a clean, warm house with a lovely fire and a kitchen full of everything we needed to cook our dinner! We would love to return and highly recommend staying here! We also loved the goats walking through town in the morning! Thank you so much for your hospitality!
This little gem lies just north of the San Bernadino Tunnel. An extremely sweet alpine hamlet just off the autobahn. Dominik's mother runs the tiny village store which has a wide range of groceries and on this occasion she was the welcome party. The accommodation is a ski chalet but functions equally well outside the ski season and is well equipped with fully functioning kitchen and generous use of coffee machine and pantry and even some breakfast provisions in the fridge. Beds were extremely comfortable and bedding of high quality ; a welcome sight after a long drive. We only stayed one night as we were passing through but were reluctant to leave and this place would be a good base for a longer walking or mountain biking holiday.
Communication with Dominik prior to the stay was great and he was very helpful with offering to book somewhere for us to eat.
We stayed at this appartment in Hintherrhein. Unfortunately, the weather was very bad, or at least rain the most of the day. This made us decide to leave two days early. Dominik (and his mom at Hintherrhein) weer very kind and helpfull and returned the money we payed for in advance. This is a great place to stay when the weather is great and you love to go hiking or cycling. When the weather is bad and you stay more indoors, it is okay, but Hintherrhein is not very busy or entertaining (beautiful countryside!). But it's always possible to take the car and drive to Splügen, Andeer or Thusis to be entertained!
Our interaction with Domonik on behalf of his mother Irene was very good. Booking and other internet interactions were prompt and easy. Although Hinterrhein would seem too out of the way many people, it should be a must do on the Swiss bucket list. There really isn't much more of a unique Swiss experience when you see goats pass through a town twice daily. There is hiking in all directions, Lugano 40 min., Chur 40 min., amazing driving routes through magnificent passes, and buses that connect everything. Next time I visit it will be in the winter to experience the epic touring and mountain resorts in the area. Don't miss out on this - you won't regret it!
Response from Dominik:
Dear Jeff, thank you very much for this detailed report; hope to welcome you in wintertime!
