Friendly, kind and responsible, my friends say I'm the "easiest guest ever." I honor the "leave no trace" hiking ethic and am very respectful of my host's time and space.
I'm a career educator, dedicated to education reform and currently working as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. I lived and worked in Tucson for over 30 years, but also enjoyed 2 wonderful years (2009-11) doing educational consult work in NYC schools and living in Manhattan. I continue to work with Teaching Matters, Inc. (education nonprofit) as a consultant on my visits to NYC 3-4 times/year.
I'm a single parent of two wonderful children, now grown. My daughter just finished her third year of doctoral work at UC Berkeley (full fellowship in the Romance Languages department), and my son is an aspiring poet (Creative Writing major), a graduate of the University of Arizona. I'm also an "almost grandparent" of 3 adorable children (stepson's children from previous marriage).
I enjoy living at 7000 feet in cool Flagstaff am often walking, hiking, reading or gardening out-of-doors. I also enjoy long fireside conversations with friends whenever possible. I've trekked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon five times (one rim-to-rim) and look forward to another visit in the near future. Laying on the Black (suspension) Bridge with the Colorado River running beneath and stars filling the sky is one of my favorite memories of The Canyon.
Since I raised my children on my own from 7 and 11 years old, I've put most of my financial resources into parenting, with little time to travel. So I'm excited to get out and explore the world in mid-life, meeting interesting people and enjoying beautiful vistas.
