Wow, I don't know where to begin. First thing I'll say for those who don't read long reviews, Jennie is the perfect host and hers is the perfect apartment. For the rest who wish to know why:
1. Coming for a month to the US alone I wanted to live in an environment in which I'll be comfortable and homey. Jennie is super nice and has a great attitude, you always feel welcome to hang out, talk or ask questions about life in the city. She is funny, intelligent and sensitive and it's been my pleasure to live with her for a month. However, if it's privacy you seek, you can choose to disappear and you'll have a lot of space to be in.
2. The room is very big, you have a lot of space- a desk, a chair, a closet, a drawer and a great bed. The private bathroom is clean and for me having a private bathroom was a huge advantage.
3. Location - a very important issue for most travelers. The apartment is 2 minutes walk to the subway and then another 7 minutes into the major stops in the city (I measured!). I think it will be impossible to find such an excellent combination of price and location. It is super easy and fast to get to anywhere in the city as the subway line closest to the apartment is connected with every other line in the city, just 7 minutes away (again, it's measured).
4. The shared kitchen and living room, much like the room you get have a great vibe and a stylish vintage design, it's like living in a beautiful picture. The photos provided are either accurate or not flattering enough. You have everything you need in the apartment from towels, sheets, kitchen supplies and different amenities, a strong WiFi connection, pots and pans. The apartment is very quiet and you feel like it's your house for most of the day as Jennie is out a lot.
In conclusion, I would come back in a heartbeat. For me this was a perfect stay and the best combination possible of the host, the atmosphere, the room, the location and the price. Oh and the cats are nice as well :)
I simply could not have asked for a better host than Jennie! I stayed at her place for a pharmacy school rotation from December 28 to January 30, and had a very comfortable stay. Her cats were good company as well! It was so nice having my own bathroom, and being such a short distance from the subway. I highly recommend Jennie and her apartment!!
Her apt....neigh, duplex is great. You get an entire floor and bathroom to yourself. Your bedroom is stocked with perfectly fitted sheets and towels. Her cats are great and it's literally like you live there by yourself.
People like Jennie are the ones that make the whole airbnb thing possible and feasible!
Me and my girlfriend spent 88 days in Jennie's apartment, and the experience was unsurpassable! I don't know where to began to explain the amazing experience we had and how incredible the whole trip was and how confortable we felt at Jennie´s place.
I will start talking about Jennie... she is a marvellous person, kind, funny, warm and helpful, a 12 out of 10 as a host!!! We had very good moments with her and her cats, a lovely cats, by the way!!! Mr Boogums and Chicken where two fantastic flatmates for us!!
The apartment was simply perfect!! Exactly what we needed and what we where looking for! It looks great in the pictures but is even better in the reality! The feeling of spaciousness it is not very common in NYC apartments. The fact of having your own bathroom is priceless!
The common areas as the kitchen and the living room are nicely furnished and are very confortables!! The kitchen is perfect to cook and is well equiped with all the necesary stuff to prepare anything you can imagine!!
The room is very big and you have a very big wardrobe and a desk, as well as a beautiful chair with a puff. The bed is a comfy king size and is provided with all the bed linens. The room faces the street and sometimes can be a bit noisy but anything you can not handle.
The bathroom is perfect in size and equipment (hairdryer, bathtub with shower, toilet, all the towels you need), it is separated from the bedroom but this is not an inconvenient at all in my opinion.
Jennie lives in the semi basement floor so you have a great feeling of intimacy as the sensation you are living in an apartment by your own, wich is really appreciated!!
What to say about the area... we felt totally in love with it!!!! we are LIC fans now!!! It is very convenient, just 10 min (door to door) from Grand Central and 25 min to Union Square for example!!!
The 7 train connects you to Manhattan but also the M and E trains in Court Square (5 min walking) do and the G train (2 min walking) takes you to Brooklyn ! It Is the perfect spot!
Vermont Blvard is plenty of restaurants and the East River park is just breathtaking!!!
I could write thousand pages telling how great everything was but I have to keep it short!
Summarizing Jennie is simply amazing and the place too..I recomend it 100% and I can tell you that is a great Deal due to its competitive price and the quality of the apartment!! It is difficult to find something better in NYC!!! I hope you can enjoy it as much as we did!!!
Thanks Jennie for the incredible time we had at your place!!! eternally gratefull!!
Jennie was great! and once I checked in I never saw her again, like having my own apartment. And the 2 cats were so sweet, a high end natural market across the street and a great little neighborhood makes this a perfect spot to stay.
Jennie is a great host and the place is clean and room is spacious. I highly recommend considering this location, just a block from the Vernon-Jackson 7 line stop. I hope to come back!
I enjoyed my 5 nights at "jennie's" :-). The room (I'd rather say a "private" apartment as Jennie was on the basement and I stayed at the main floor) was very nice & big. Having my own bathroom and almost a "private" kitchen & living area was great. She respected my privacy but was always available. A block from the sweet leaf caffe a great coffee shop with very tasty breakfast (the carrot cake!!!).
The 7 train is only 3 minutes walking, one stop to Grand Central and three to times square. A beautiful Manhattan skyline & park are just 10min from the flat.
Mr. Boogums and Chicken (the cats) are adorable and very fiendly. I highly recommend staying "jennie's" :-)
The reservation was canceled 22 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We stayed 5 nights. Jenny was incredibly nice and hospitable. The apartment and room were both So charming, well-lit and beautiful: decorated with paintings, books, records, etc. The pictures don't do it justice. A lovely, clean, homey space. I was very happy with my choice, having done a lot of research on airbnb beforehand and being flexible on the location.
Jenny stays in the basement; you get the room and easy access to the bathroom/kitchen on the main floor. She was gone most of the time but available as much as we wanted her to answer any questions or have a nice chat. Another reviewer had mentioned noise, but this is NYC, and considering that, noise was no problem/it was actually quite quiet. I guess bring earplugs if you're not used to any noise whatsoever, just to be safe.
Her apt is located across from an organic grocery and a block from an Incredibly cute coffee shop I'll be sure to visit again on my own sometime. Perfectly safe and expensive neighborhood. The street itself isn't so attractive, but she's just one block away from a very charming main street of Long Island City where there are lots of restaurants, etc (and where the subway is). She's also off the first stop in Queens, aka just one stop away from Grand Central! The 7 train is probably the most convenient train in the city, all subways considered, so if you want convenience, this is it.
She also has two friendly orange cats. The apt shows no evidence of them beyond their food dishes, and them, if you want them. She would probably be happy to consider taking the food downstairs if you'd ask/if you're somewhat allergic.
I really enjoyed staying at Jennie’s place. She gave me a warm welcome and made me feel at home. My room was very nice and so was the rest of the apartment. It was great to have your own bathroom, which I think isn’t usual while sharing an apartment in NYC. Moreover the neighborhood was very nice and convenient. Everything you might need during your stay is very close: restaurants, supermarket, drugstore, laundry or a coffeehouse. I prefered having lunch on the weekend at BreadBox which is just a few steps away from the apartment and used to take the brakfast burrito that I can recommend. Besides the subway connection to the city was perfect, just one step to Grand Central with the 7 train. It takes you about 2 minutes to get to the subway station. If you want to take other trains you can walk to Court Square which takes about 8 minutes. I stayed at Jennie’s appartment for about a month and I can really recommend this place. Jennie, Mr. Boogums and Chicken (the cats) are wonderful hosts. I would definitly stay here again!
I have known Jennie for many years. I think of her as a ray of sunshine...she has lots of energy, and lots of fun whenever possible. She was my roommate when we first became friends, so from experience I can also add that she is also a very hard worker, and very respectful of others. I can stay "Stay with Jennie! You'll love it!" without any hesitation at all!
