I am a retired teacher who taught mostly 2nd and 3rd grade for 23 years. My husband, Tim, is a consultant and writer for home healthcare providers. I love to work outdoors in my yard in the summertime. I garden and do larger landscaping projects such as building decks and patios. I also love to read (mostly fiction) and hike with our dogs. We have 5 grandchildren whom we love to spend time with. We also like to go to the theater and to travel. I lived for 5 years in Lyons, France, so France has a special place in my heart, but I am happy to go anywhere and always find neat places to visit wherever we are. Sometimes we camp, sometimes we stay with friends or in other AirBnBs, and sometimes we do the hotel thing. Just depends on where we are. We have two friendly dogs -- a Labradoodle and a Cocker Spaniel -- and one ornery cat. They are very well behaved and never bother our guests.
My husband is a writer and public speaker. When he is in town, he works in his home office and is often available all day. When he is traveling, he may be away for a few days at a time. He has set up a high-speed, wireless network in the house that guests are welcome to use. From time to time, one or more of our grown children will drop by, the guitars come out and we harmonize to the songs they grew up with. Having the house full of people is one of our favorite things.
I have a heart for women's issues, and I belong to the Zonta Club of the Pikes Peak area which strives to improve the economic and educational status of women both locally and internationally. In conjunction with Zonta, I started a program called Launching Families which pairs mentors with girls aging out of the foster care system and heading on to college.
