This place is well situated and quiet. In my room there was TV, fridge and a wardrobe.
I think that this place offers a good relation cost/benefic.
The room was clean, as was the shared space. Good location if you're working downtown. Wireless worked well. Decent bed, good linens. Don't be put off by some of the locals in the neighbourhood.
I had a great experience at Mina's guesthouse, everyone was really nice and the rooms well equipped.
Very nice stay at this place, well situated, clean and quiet.
All the advantages of an hotel but with an access to the kitchen, which is very convenient. The room was spacious and had an privileged access to a terrace. I would highly recommend this place to visit the city.
Great for me... but maybe not for you. Let me explain.
You might not feel safe in the neighborhood. Since my son and I are both over six feet tall and have some experience in less 'polished' urban environments, we did. (That said, we saw nothing approaching criminal activity. What we saw was a lot of the sort of people who require - and in Canada, apparently receive - public housing. Some people aren't comfortable with that. I also can't speak of neighborhoods to the east or south of this one, as we didn't spend time in those areas.)
I don't want a lot of hand holding in a 'hostel' environment. That worked out, as I never once saw the proprietor or anyone officially associated with this place over my five day stay. When I did have problems (ask for two keys if two people are staying in the room), all I had to do was make a phone call to be talked through the problem. Personally, I didn't mind that a bit.
Lastly, #9 is a basement room, and as such is a always very very dark (the window in the description is a basement window, guys), dank and oppressive. I would have preferred a room with some air and light, but then the front porch was very comfortable and provided those qualities when I wanted them.
But, for a place to crash with quick access to downtown and public transportation, this place was fine. And the True Love Cafe two doors down, a great breakfast hang out run by two very friendly and helpful people, made this location livable and enjoyable.
Arya was friendly and helpful. He allowed us to check in early which was really great. The bed was comfortable, there was hanging space and hangars and a large set of drawers, and a TV. The shared bathroom was right next door. The downstairs coin laundry was easy to operate and efficient. There was a big range of equipment in the kitchen.
The place has lots of buses and trolley buses, lots of passing taxis and is very near the centre.
The neighbourhood is in a low socio-economic area, but people were very friendly and we did not find that we were bothered or frightened.
The house is old so Room 8 was up 2 flights of narrow stairs and was very small. The room was quite hot as the window faces a wall, without any way of easily cooling it.
The house was simple, but it attended all our needs. The bedroom and the bathroom were clean. Furthermore, the location wad great, especially for those using public transportation.
This room is located on the top floor of the house, bathroom is shared with an adjacent room. The place was clean and quiet. The surroundings have some seemingly homeless people who can get loud in the streets, but nothing serious. Everything is close-by, you can walk to Eaton in 5-8 min.
Stayed at this guesthouse (room 4) for just over a month in January 2014. Main advantage of this place the location and the price. The place itself isn't too flashy but it has everything you need and would expect for what you are paying. The staff were very helpful and were on call 24hrs if there were any problems. Only drawback is the area itself. Not dangerous, just a few weird characters roaming the streets. The building is quiet and secure, and is very close to all forms of public transport.
I really appreciate you honest and helful opinion. Your reveiw will help other travellers to get an idea before booking and this is great for host and guest.
The room was clean, the bathroom was functional and the fridge was working. There is no desk or chair in the room. I was lucky that the people next to my room were quiet because I was able to hear them talk.
The kitchen, even if it was cleaned twice a week I guess, was quite dirty. It's also very small, so it's almost impossible to have more than 1 person cooking at a time. I preferred to eat at the restaurant.
Internet was working most of the time.
The owner could be more sympathetic in general.
Generally, the area is OK, it was close to downtown, which was fine for me.
