This is basically a hostel containing both private rooms and dormitories.
We stayed 4 nights.
When we were booking we were told that there was no private double room available for the 4 nights we wanted.
When we asked if there was any other option - the hostel gave us the option of staying:
the first two nights in a double room,
the 3rd night in a 3 bed room sharing with a stranger,
the 4th night in a private twin-bed room.
We accepted this.
The rooms were very basic and that was fine.
The beds were comfortable.
All rooms contain small air conditioning units which are noisy but keep the room comfortable.
There are 3 or 4 bathrooms/toilets on each floor.
The power of the flow of water wasn't great.
The reliability of decent heat from the hot water tap wasn't great.
Some of the shower controls were quite old and in need of an upgrade.
Guests get a bath towel each but no washcloths. Washcloths are left in a container in bathrooms and you might not get one. I guess you could ask at reception for one.
The building is beautiful, especially the front communal areas of each floor with lovely open balcony looking out onto Christopher Columbus Square with a large statue in the middle of it.
These areas had nice comfortable seating and tables.
Wifi is only strong in these areas and the 1 room closest to these areas.
The staff on the reception desk were nice and friendly.
It is a perfect location for a few days in Old San Juan which is beautiful with narrow streets with lovely buildings and two large historical forts from the 1500s.
It is also not too far from the Condado neighbourhood parts of which are a bit like Miami beach.
All in all, we would definitely stay there again.
The Posada was easy to find and check in to. Its a wonderful location for Old San Juan. 6 floors up is a climb, but offers a gorgeous view of the town, especially at dawn and evening. Parking is at a nearby garage and very inexpensive. I only wish the rooms had windows to open and get fresh air.
Very well-positioned simple place, ideal for short stay or just couple of nights without much fuss. Receptionist was not particularly welcoming, but the view from the 6th floor balcony didn't take much time to make up for it. Shared bathrooms and showers but rooms are ok. Price is good for what it offers. Would recommend it for a last minute booking.
I do not know why I waited so long to revisit the island. I come from a navy family and attended Antilles HS late 60s and enjoyed all the joy of food and outdoor celebrations. Listen, do not pass up this gem of a guest house. My mother and I stayed one week last week in the 5th floor triple room. The management is so detail perfect I really wanted to meet Chris but although I asked, we never crossed paths. I did meet her husband Martin and mother. The young man and woman who kept up the rooms and kitchen although both spoke little English, their smiles were heart warming. Last Sunday the young man was cleaning every inch he could reach!!! Rooms have bright ceiling lights. Our Strategically placed book lights were helpful. The elevator was sweet to us the whole week, read directions. Suggest whatever you cannot live without, bring it or buy it in town. Kitchen coffee pot tiny. During our week Miserable Attempts were made by guests to clean dishes, get disposable dishes and flatware or boil water to wash as I did first day. I will definitely return either solo or with friends.
It was a great location for our needs. We were going on a cruise and it is extremely close to the ship docks ( you can see the ship from the balcony). Very clean room, nice staff. Nice hot shower in the morning as well. Great prices in the vending machines as well, so buy your drinks there and not out in the street, you'll save half the cost. Nice secure building with keycard access was definitely a bonus.
The hostel is very clean and accommodating. Great location, extremely convenient for a traveler like myself. 30min walking distance to the beach, close to many options for drinks and food. Just a beautiful experience. Would stay again!
il posto merita.particolarissima architettura,stanze pulite,servizio buonissimo.posizione perfetta. accoglienza gentile e veloce.
Great location! Amenities as described. Only complaint was I was on the 6th floor and the elevator was out of order Monday-Thursday of my Monday-Saturday trip. Just having an ankle surgery, this caused a very painful stay for me. Posada indicated the elevator would be fixed Weds, but it was not fixed until Thursday evening. If I hadn't just had ankle surgery, this might not have been such a big deal; however, dragging luggage up five flights of stairs also proved quite inconvenient and difficult. Other than the elevator issues, this was a beautiful building with kind staff and I would highly recommend it.
The reviews regarding Posada San Francisco are pretty accurate - it's a hostel. It was clean and relatively quiet. Perfect if you don't intend to spend a lot of time in your room. Bathrooms are shared. Maintenance such as fresh towels is minimal but fits the price. Ideally situated for exploring Old San Juan by foot. There's no easy street parking but there is a garage nearby for about $25 per night.
We spent one night at this place- we really enjoyed it- the room was spacious and clean- perfect to visit old San Juan in one day- close by all touristic places.
