There was some confusion with our taxi driver, and he did not take us to the agreed upon hotel. We called Frederic and he sent a tuk tuk to pick us up- no problem! The property was absolutely beautiful. Like a little oasis. The pictures don't do it justice. We decided to spend one of our days just lounging around the pool and in the bungalow instead of doing "touristy" things. It was heaven. The breakfast was also amazing, and more of an event than a meal. The staff brought out course after course (pastry, fruit, yogurt, eggs and bacon, etc...) and it was served out in the gazebo, poolside. We can't say enough good things about this property and the hosts. I would highly recommend it. The only drawback was the mosquitos. They had coils and repellant lamps lit, but I still got eaten alive. Bring your bug repellant!
We really enjoyed staying at this place. It felt almost like a private hotel we had all to ourselves. The room is very big and spacious. Great bed and bathroom. The swimming pool and garden area is really nicely designed and great to even spend a whole day. The hosts are very accommodating and interesting people with a lot of knowledge about Cambodian history society and culture past and present. We enjoyed reading Frederic's book about Cambodia and hearing about his work. The staff were very friendly and kind to us and really made our stay. Our tuk tuk driver Mr Chenda made a personal schedule with us every day and took us where we wanted when we wanted and always with a smile. It made everything so easy comfortable and enjoyable. Nice location outside the city so we got a wider experience off the tourist trail. We hope the staff get duely rewarded for their excellent service!
We had a wonderful time at Avy's private bungalow in Siem Reap. The area is a nice respite from the center of town and really conveniently located for exploring the temple complex. Breakfast was luxurious and the service was extremely attentive without being intrusive. This was also true of the tuk-tuk driver we had available at our convenience. We also had the staff prepare a dinner for us one evening, which I highly recommend. The room and pool look exactly as they did in the photos so there were no surprises. Avy's local knowledge was really helpful to avoid the crowds and get the best meals. Thanks to everyone who made our stay so great!
What an absolute find, my husband & I have just arrived home after a 4 night stay and are already wondering when we can return!
We didn't get to meet hosts Fred & Avy sadly but were left in the hands of their absolutely wonderful staff, who made us feel so at home. It was the perfect balance of having a private villa and pool but with all the comforts of having help on hand should you need to book a restaurant/ have laundry done etc.
The villa itself is immaculate (I'm very fussy!) with a very colonial feel, it's 100% private and comes with fresh linen & towels and a huge comfy bed! The pool and surrounding garden is just stunning, the perfect place to relax after a hard days sight-seeing!
Breakfast is plentiful, French style, and not to mention delicious, served anytime you like on the private pool patio, we also ate lunch & dinner here, at US $12/pp its incredible value!
Without a doubt Mr Chenda, the local tuk-tuk driver, made this trip for us, he is so knowledgeable about the area and the best places to go and beat the crowds when temple-hoping, he also took us for a local lunch which was fanatic, he's the nicest man with the best smile :)
Wi-fi is super fast and free which was great.
All in all we couldn't recommend this villa enough, thanks to everyone who looked after us!
Didn'(website hidden).ever.leave! From the second we stepped off of our flight in Siem Reap, to the moment we walked back through the airport doors to leave, we were absolutely taken care of by Avy and "extended family". Taken care of doesn't quite cut it. We were taken into their home and garden paradise, and were able to slip into what life would be like if one lived in Cambodia. The driver we had, Mr. Chenda, was with us all day and night helping us to see and do all that our hearts were set upon in Siem Reap (and more that we didn't even know we wanted to see). In just 3 short days, I fell in love with Cambodia. I absolutely be back to stay with Avy and extended family and we'll miss Mr. Chenda every day until then!
We spent 2 nights in the structure and we were 2 couples. The private bungalow it's nice and comfortable but the second room, inside the house, was not the at the same level. It was dark, small and the bathroom was very old and uncomfortable not matching the standard of the rest.
The breakfast was amazing and the service was very nice. Also the garden and the swimming pool were beautiful.
I would suggest to stay in the private bungalow: good value for money.
There is only one word that describes Avy's & Fred's private bungalow in Siem Reap:
We had the chance and possibility to stay one week in cambodia and we were very pleased to got accepted and invited by such open hearted persons.
The staff, the building everything is extraordinary. Not only the breakfast and the pool. The pictures describe a lot about what you can expect over there but if you see it real it's the pure pleasure.
And now some words to a person who really touched our souls an made the stay better then any 5-star resort. The one and only Mr. Chenda. He is not only your private Tuk Tuk driver. He became a true friend who guided us throughout our trip. He tells you everything about the wildlife and keeps all scams off you. He shows you the true side of Cambodia and if you have the chance to stay longer then 3/4 days in Siem Reap he can also show you the real life. Be open hearted and recieve the love of friendly people all over the area!
We didn't came to Avy & Fred because we wanted to stay in the city. We wanted to have a private relaxed homebase and found new friends!
Thank you for everything. We'll never forget you and we'll definetly come back!!!
With love & respect,
Ina & Daniel
First of all let me state that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Avy and Freds fantastic accommodation.
We stayed for six nights for a mix of sightseeing and R&R. And we that is a family of three with a five year old daughter.
Here's what we enjoyed most (in no particular order):
- We enjoyed the talks with our superfriendly host Fred, which were highly informative on top regarding life in Cambodia and the country itself, he made us feel very welcome
- Though we didn't get to know Avy, we were able to admire and enjoy her work in the beautifully designed lush garden
- Professional and very attentive service staff which exceeds four star hotels by a large margin. On top very personal as they will flexibly accommodate to your schedule, in one word excellent.
- Privacy as your have the compound all for yourself and great to throw in a day of lazing around, or two... :-)
- The pool was great to refresh yourself after exploring the temples, especially our daughter enjoyed it a lot
- Terrific western breakfast, honestly one of the best of this kind I have enjoyed so far
- The driver Mr. Chenda is a great asset as well. Friendly, always with a broad smile on his face, very punctual. He can also provide valuable suggestions for your itinerary if required. We felt very comfortable with him. On a side note he is not part of the staff but we considered his rates to be fair and did not haggle.
- Even if you are not provided with an address in the first place (which would be most likely not useful for tourists anyway), Fred and Avy will reliably provide for a free pickup regardless of your mode of transport, just make sure your contact them well in advance
- There are probably a couple of other pros I failed to mention :-)
Speaking of pros it's hard to come up with any real cons. Maybe the house staff is a bit shy to actively speak English, but we found this to be no particular obstacle in any form or fashion.
One more thing: Please read the description of Avy and Freds place carefully. After bring there in person I found it highly accurate. It will give you a very detailed impression of what to expect.
Closing this review I would like to mention that during our great stay we felt like everything is taken care of. So we could appreciate our time there even more. We would recommend this place to our friends and most likely book it again if we were to go to Siem Reap again.
I think it's needless to say we liked it a lot. :-)
Very nice and friendly guests. Highly recommended. 5 star guests.
