I never actually met Jay but she was super helpful throughout the whole process - especially since I had to move my trip and had a million questions for her!
The place is really quaint and cozy, and perfectly located for the purpose of my trip - an "artcation." My boyfriend and I were able to see every gallery that we wanted, and they were all within walking distance of the place.
This studio is all about location. We visited Houston for a weekend art binge, and this was the perfect place to stay -- within walking distance of the Menil Collection, the Contemporary, the MFA and the Natural Science Museum. There's a pretty rad little bar at the end of the street and plenty of restaurants also within walking distance. We hardly drove at all, which was awesome (especially in a car city!).
Jay was a great host, leaving a list of recommendations for local spots and even checking up on us while we were there, to make sure we had everything we needed.
The studio is cute but is definitely old. If you're looking for something new and swank, look elsewhere. If you're looking for the perfect location at a price that allows you to do more on your visit, this is definitely the place to stay. We'll be back.
Our stay was fantastic! The location was 10 minutes away or less from everything we wanted to do in Houston. Jay left us a great list of recommendations, and the studio itself was very comfortable and cozy (especially with the two heaters and electric blanket!). I'd definitely stay here again!
We were looking for a place to alight for one night while passing through Houston - Jay's place is great, comfortable, in a very cute neighborhood, we were able to walk over to Lucille's to meet a friend for dinner, then walk over to the bar at Hotel Zaza, and stroll one block to the Contemporary Arts Museum the next morning. The Zoo, Museum of Fine Arts, several other great restaurants and bars within walking distance. Easy on and off main thoroughfares to get there. If you're looking to make the most of 12 hours in Houston, this place is it! Very quiet, easy street parking, calming space - highly recommended. Thanks Jay!
Very cool studio apartment in one of the best parts of Houston. Its a classic Houston apartment in the museum district. Quiet and quaint by Houston standards, but very close to everything cool. The Montrose, the museums, the Heights, tons of great food. It was literally like being in a classic old school hotel rooms, but better because it wasn't downtown or in the galleria area or worse. Would totally stay again! Price, comfort level and location were all perfect.
Fantastic location. Very quiet and serene.
I stayed in this is lovely studio for a week and I couldn't have asked for a better location for visiting MFAH, CAMH, the Menil Collection and other museums. They are all within walking distance, as are some very nice restaurants and bars. Downtown is easily accessible by Metrorail (the station is a short walk away). The studio was clean and comfortable and had everything I needed. Jay is a lovely and responsive host. Highly recommended!
This was a perfect hub for my museum vacation, and Jay is a great host.
My husband and I stayed in this cozy apartment for a weekend while in town for a conference at Rice. We loved it! It is in a perfect location for visiting museums and eating the great food Houston has to offer! Jay thoughtfully left snacks and a magazine about Houston, since I'd mentioned that I haven't spent much time in the city before. She always responded quickly to questions via text message--overall, she was a great host!
