Jimmy Biblarz, a rising junior in Eliot House, was born in Seattle, Washington but spent nearly his entire life in Los Angeles, California. He loves movies, the beach (like any good Californian) and dining hall frozen yogurt (a guilty pleasure). He concentrates in Social Studies focusing on education policy and civil rights with a secondary field in English. Jimmy has dedicated much of his coursework to studying how public policy can improve access to education, how school integration can successfully be achieved, and what social and cultural barriers exist to education. Recently, he has become interested in the social causes of obesity, how Americans perceive obesity, and how public policy can best go about addressing such a severe health crisis. At Harvard, he serves as the Chair of the Fellows and Study Groups program at the IOP, a program that brings six resident fellows (former politicians, journalists, activists) to Harvard every semester to host weekly study groups, mentor and guide undergraduates, and become a part of the Harvard community. He is also the Business Manager for Harvard Model Congress Europe, and is a Peer Advising Fellow (PAF). This summer, Jimmy is thrilled to be working in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Democratic National Convention. He plans to work on speechwriting, speech editing, coordinating with the Obama campaign in North Carolina, and liaising with the state party delegations. Although having never traveled to the South, Jimmy is excited to discover a new part of the country and is proud to be the lone Director’s Intern in the great state of North Carolina!
